Unearthing And Harnessing The Power Of The Soil Microbiome And Mycorrhizas To Enhance Plant Nutrient Utilization Under Climate Stress written by Marika Pellegrini and has been published by Frontiers Media SA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-09-19 with Technology & Engineering categories.
The Earth's population, currently estimated at 7.86 billion, is expected to rise to 9.8 billion by 2050. This increase will inevitably lead to a greater pressure on agricultural land in order to achieve food security. However, agricultural sustainability is still constrained by its over-reliance on chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. These conventional practices may lead to severe negative environmental consequences, typically evidenced by a loss in soil organic matter and reduction in soil microbial diversity, negatively impacting on food production. The challenging situation identified above is likely to be worsened by climate change, soil health deterioration, and by a range of biotic and abiotic stresses. Biotic and abiotic stress management, enhancement of crop yields, nutrient cycling, and natural bio-resources harnessing optimization can be achieved by modifying the soil microbiome. Discovering and exploiting potentially beneficial soil microbes is crucial to achieving sustainable agriculture production in the face of these issues. Among the plethora of potentially beneficial microbes, plant growth-promoting microbes (PGPM) and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are often considered to be safe and environment-friendly tools to deal with various stresses. The interest in adopting novel methods that increase crop yield, soil health, and fertility will be positively impacted by a better understanding of the fate and behaviour of PGPM and AMF use in agriculture.

Remediation And Health Risks Of Heavy Metal Contaminated Soils written by Qi Liao and has been published by Frontiers Media SA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-10-18 with Science categories.
Soil is the essential foundation for human survival. However, soil pollution and environmental problems have become increasingly evident in recent years. In particular, heavy metal pollution at various sites poses a serious threat to human health and ecological safety, becoming a significant social issue worldwide. Greener and environmentally friendly remediation technologies, coupled with accurate evaluation of the potential risks, environmental impact, and human health of heavy metals in the soil have become urgently required. This Research Topic aims to gather the latest advancements in scientific research and applicable studies on (i) the potential risk or impact of recently problematic heavy metals (such as Sb, TI) and cases of combined heavy metal pollution; (ii) pollution formation, migration, and remediation of heavy metal in soil and groundwater; (iii) novel methods to treat and reduce heavy metals in contaminated sites; (iv) environmentally friendly remediation technology (such as enhanced bioremediation and in-situ remediation); and (v) assessment or modeling of the environmental or human health impact of heavy metals.

How does a writer discuss her creative process and her views on a writer’s role in society? How do her comments on writing relate to her works? The Hindi writer Krishna Sobti (1925-2019) is known primarily as a novelist. However, she also extensively wrote about her views on the creative process, the figure of the writer, historical writing, and the position of writers within the public sphere. This study is the first to examine in detail the relationship between Sobti’s views on poetics as exposed in her non-fictional texts and her own literary practice. The writer’s self-representation is analysed through her use of metaphors to explain her creative process. Sobti’s construction of the figure of the writer is then put in parallel with her idiosyncratic use of language as a representation of the heterogeneous voices of her characters and with her conception of literature as a space where time and memory can be "held." At the same time, by delving into Sobti’s position in the debate around "women’s writing" (especially through the creation of a male double, the failed writer Hashmat), and into her views on literature and politics, this book also reflects on the literary debates of the post-Independence Hindi literary sphere.

In the past few decades, climate change has become one of the biggest threats to the Earth’s ecosystem and biodiversity. Several environmental stress factors such as salinity and drought have already threatened the viability of sustainable agriculture, an alarm bell to researchers. Soil salinity hampers development through its effects on the morphological, physiological, and biochemical processes associated with plant growth. Drought, on the other hand, affects the productivity of crops. It is anticipated that by 2050, drought will be the leading cause of hampered crop production due to increases in the magnitude of climate change. These changes present a formidable challenge when it comes to feeding a global population, which will require an 0.84% annual increase in crop production. Climate change-induced environmental changes and the continuously growing world population, therefore, demand renewed efforts to increase food production. In this regard, the role of the phytobiome in assuring soil-plant health will be an important issue across crop-wide and area-wide research. A plant's microbiome plays an important role in guiding plant growth and development. Plants adapted to extreme conditions, such as those in desert or saline environments, harbor microbes in their rhizosphere or endosphere that help to provide the required physiological resistance necessary to survive in those environments. Microorganisms like bacteria, fungi, and viruses associated with plant roots increase plants' resistance to various abiotic and biotic stresses. Microorganisms also moderate stress for crop plants, paving the way for sustainable agriculture.
