Here, in WYSIWYG Tales, you will find tales about people who have used WYSIWYG Wizardry and how that has helped them. In The Wizard of Oz movie, Dorothy and her companions had, within themselves, the traits they sought but could not see. The Wizard found ways to help them see those things. There was no real magic in what he did. He just created situations in which their actions made it easy for them to visualize the fact that those traits had always been there. All he did was help them see. People call me the WYSIWYG Wizard because that's the kind of thing I do and want to tell you about. The people I work with do many different types of things. They build things, they write things, and they change things. Sometimes they work alone and sometimes they work with other people to provide services or complete projects. And, like the seekers in the movie, they cannot always see clearly what they do. They do well most of the time but they also have problems, make mistakes, and have crises. They would very much like to avoid all of those difficulties but they can't see how to do that. You, your friends, and your co-workers may be like that also. You may be skipping down your own yellow brick road, doing what you do, not fully seeing and understanding what you do and how you fit in all that. A little bit of WYSIWYG wizardry can help you. No magic is required. All you need are some simple, down-to-earth, practical visualization techniques to help you see, better understand, and improve what you do and the way you do it. Take a moment and ask yourself if you would like to:• See and understand how things you do fit together – or not• See ways to solve your problems and avoid crises• See how you can improve coordination with colleagues and friends• Help others see beneficial things they can or should be doing• See how to organize your thoughts and activities• See things that are really important and focus attention on themThen, get into the book. Read about Sarah and how she solved her coordination problem. Then see how Anne and Fred got better ways to see how they spent their time. Read about the group that finally stopped being late and another that no longer makes too many mistakes. Read the other tales and see how other people solved the kinds of problems you sometimes have. Let them show you ways to see things about what you do that you have never been able to see before Learn the practical visualization techniques that you and the others on the road with you will be able to use to be more successful. Learn how you can also be a WYSIWYG Wizard.

Tales from the Word Guy is a collection of essays adapted from the author’s segments on CBC Radio One’s North by Northwest. Jonathan Berkowitz takes the reader on a delightful journey through the history, idiosyncrasies, and sheer pleasures of the English language. He covers how English evolved and expanded over the centuries. And he reminds us of long-forgotten aspects of how to use the language properly. You will chuckle at how it is used improperly, often with amusing results. With enthusiasm, humour, and plenty of infectious fun, Berkowitz offers up a deep appreciation for the beauty of our language. If you love our language, you’ll love this look at it.

Tales of Bellerophon -On the Banks of the Shalimar is the tale of one man's soul journey, a perilous adventure into unknown worlds beyond our form and time; in which he struggles both to understand these experiences and to reconcile his own identity with the different person he becomes. These and other fundamental questions are answered in this life changing account. This book is a revelation of human nature beyond the grave, of a continuity that sobers the most expectant and will shock those secure in their belief that death is the end.

This book is the outcome of a successful workshop held in Leeds in September 2003 and explores the effects of World War II on the representation of gender in post-war literature, film and popular culture, juxtaposing Western European experience with US, Soviet and Japanese. It aims to outline the different ways in which these representations evolved in post-war attempts both to re-establish social order and reconstruct national identity. It gives the reader an overview of the similarities and differences that have emerged in the representation of war and gender in different cultures and media, as a result of social expectations, political change and individual artistic innovation. The essays are linked by their concern with three key questions: how are emotion and gender represented in relation to the experience of war; what is the impact of war on the dynamic between the genders; and, as the memory of war recedes, is it possible to identify chronological shifts in the artistic response to the conflict?

The Book Of Ten Nights And A Night written by John Barth and has been published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Fiction categories.

The Book of Ten Nights and a Night offers both a keen introduction to the genius of John Barth and a deeply human argument for the enduring value of literature. Gathering stories written throughout this postmodern master's long career, the collection spans his entire range of styles, from straightforward narrative to experimental metafiction. In the time immediately following September 11, 2001, the veteran writer Graybard spends eleven nights with a nubile muse named WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get). The two lovers debate the meaning and relevance of writing and storytelling in the wake of disaster, telling a new tale each night in the tradition of Scheherazade. The Book of Ten Nights and a Night exhibits the thrilling blend of playfulness and illuminating insight that have marked Barth as one of America's most distinguished writers.

In June 1862, James J. Archer was promoted to the rank of brigadier general by Robert E. Lee. Serving with distinction in prominent battles such as those at Bull Run, Chancellorsville and Harpers Ferry, this lawyer-turned-general earned not only the respect of his superiors but the esteem and admiration of his men. Imprisoned first at Fort Delaware and then at Johnson's Island, Archer was one of the "First Fifty" (and as it turned out only) officers to be part of a Confederate/Union prisoner exchange. Upon returning to the Confederacy, Archer resumed command and served until his death from battle wounds in October 1864. From doctors to lawyers and privates to generals, this volume records the stories of a few special people--such as General James Archer--who chose to serve their country during the Civil War. Twenty-four individuals from both sides of the Mason-Dixon line are remembered for their extraordinary and often little known contributions to the Confederate and Union causes. These include Colonel Thomas Rose, who was in charge of the Libby Prison tunnel; Colonel John R. Winston, who was one of the few to escape from the Federal prison on Johnson's Island; Sally Tompkins, who ran a private hospital in Richmond; and Sergeant Richard Kirkland, who risked his life to take water to the Federal troops at Fredericksburg. Other featured individuals include Susie Baker King Taylor, Colonel Hector McKethan, Dr. Mary Walker and Richard Thomas Zarvona. Contemporary sources include a variety of correspondence and diaries from these subjects and those who knew them. Appendices contain a roll of participants in the Great Locomotive Chase; a list of Federal prisoners who escaped through the Libby Prison tunnel; a directory of Confederate officers on board the Maple Leaf; and the history of the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Confederate Roll of Honor. A number of contemporary photographs are also included.
