Both an activist and artist, and a key player in San Francisco's "Mission School" (alongside Barry McGee, Margaret Kilgallen and Chris Johanson), Xara Thustra has been pushing the envelope socially and artistically for 15-plus years in San Francisco. Thustra's ever-evolving creative media have included graffiti, screenprinted posters, calendars, murals, paintings, video, music, performance and protest. Socially, Thustra has been responsible for anti-war actions, gay activism, feeding the hungry, anti-capitalist actions, squats such as 949 Market and much more. This handsome 500-page book surveys Thustra's work, with cameos from Xylor Jane, Chris Johanson, Barry McGee, Emory Douglas, Erick Lyle, Kyle Ranson, Ivy Jean, Sy Loady and a cast of other San Francisco punks, artists, queers and activists. Friendship Between Artists Is an Equation of Love and Survival overflows with life, salvaging from oblivion the raw, visceral feel of 15 years of ephemeral underground freedom.

Streetopia written by Rebecca Solnit and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015 with Art fairs categories.

After San Francisco's new mayor announced imminent plans to clean up downtown with a new corporate dot com corridor and arts district--featuring the new headquarters of Twitter and Burning Man--curators Erick Lyle, Chris Johanson and Kal Spelletich brought over 100 artists and activists together with residents fearing displacement to consider utopian aspirations and plot alternative futures for the city. The resulting exhibition, Streetopia, was a massive anti-gentrification art fair that took place in venues throughout the city, featuring daily free talks, performances, skillshares and a free community kitchen out of the gallery. This book brings together all of the art and ephemera from the now-infamous show, featuring work by Swoon, Barry McGee, Emory Douglas, Monica Canilao, Rigo 23, Xara Thustra, Ryder Cooley and many more. Essays and interviews with key participants consider the effectiveness of Streetopia's projects while offering a deeper rumination on the continuing search for community in today's increasingly homogenous and gentrified cities.

Tendrils Of Belief written by Kayla Garnet Rose, PhD and has been published by Independently Published this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-05-05 with categories.

Introduction to The Adventures of a Baby Crone Series Kayla wrote poetry at an early age. She remembers making her brother laugh by singing little rhyming songs, accolades from her parents after writing a poem about pirates in fifth grade, scribbles in diaries, many a journal burned later. Only one poem from high school remains - Solitary. A combination of the recent wildfires in California and approaching her second Saturn return has compelled her to create an archive, to leave a legacy, a rosary of remembrance. Thus the Adventures of a Baby Crone was born. "The personal is the political." Spanning four decades, these volumes reflect changes in the author's life, the current times and the queer movement. It has been an intense time of questioning gender, sexuality, race, class, politics, values, and identity. Sappho's Delights is a delicious collection of feminist and lesbian poetry that chronicle the adventures of a young baby crone as she crossed the country and discovered home. She felt fierce and fabulous. She loved every minute of it. These tasty morsels span almost a decade. From coming out as bisexual during high school in Maryland, a frisky four years of college in Connecticut an interim in zesty California, a healing year in Northern Idaho, participating on the Global Walk for a Livable World, living as a lesbian separatist, as well as opening the feminist bookstore in Santa Cruz, California. Friends, lovers, cats and companions are celebrated through poems, haiku, songs, ramblings and even some blues. Dip your toes into the honey! Tendrils of Belief: Poems 1997 - 2006 picks up the adventures of our Baby Crone five years after Sappho's Delights. No longer a maiden, she embraces motherhood, becomes a gay divorce, and moves from retail therapy to hypnotherapy. Spanning almost a decade, here is more scrumptious food for thought, nuggets to savor and relish. Inspired by the Adrinene Rich's, On Lies Secrets, and Silence, these tender tales continue a quest into a deeper knowing of self, family, and community. Prayers, meditations, affirmations, and some lamentations. Changing Woman: Poems 2007 - 2016 Reflecting a time of questing and questioning for our Baby Crone, while she changed careers, discovered online dating, and fueled her passion for blogging. The Beautiful Unknown: Retreat Poems and Prose 2009 - 2020 These poems, prayers, meditations and love spells were woven at various silent writer's retreats along the California Coast, including Mission San Antonio, Point Reyes, and The New Calmodese Hermitage in Big Sur. The Tiggy Poems: 2007 - 2018 What? A spiny launderette gets seduced by Cock Robin? The Tiggy poems reveal our Baby Dyke deciding that gender, shmender, put it all in a blender, and surf the world of online dating. Much to her surprise, she did meet the one in a million chance... for love, sweet love. Poems on love, loss, and love renewed. Slices of Life: Poems and Prose 2008 - 2022 The meat of the book is the Her story, with several hefty pieces, most notably the insemination story and chunking through a "History of Eating". Accompanied by memories of past Kitchens with a side of Recipes, these are tasty morsels, some saucy, some juicy, some just plain bitter. Garnishing the cookbook is the Tidbits section, a few haikus and ramblings to cleanse the palate. Pandemic Blues: Poems and Prose 2020 - 2023 A collection of poetry, prose, letters, and photographs during the outbreak of COVID-19 in the United States. A time of lockdowns and long walks, isolation and virtual friendships, chalk art and free libraries. Between impeachments, infections and insurrections, there was a lot to be blue about.
