Although there are workshops, conferences and symposia on many metals - from arsenic to zinc - the International Conference on Heavy Metals in the Environment (ICHMET) remains the only forum that provides an integrated perspective on research, technology and management of all heavy metals in a trans-disciplinary context. The 15th International Conference on Heavy Metals in the Environment (ICHMET-15) was held from September 19 to 23, 2010 at the Gda sk University of Technology, Poland. This volume contains a sampling from the more than 300 papers submitted for presentation at the conference. The papers together provide a window into research being done - especially in central Europe - and solutions being proposed for dealing with the threat of trace metal pollution to ecosystems and our health. This volume should be of interest to anyone concerned about the global and regional dimensions of heavy metals in the environment."

The contributions in this book were presented in a special symposium focusing on the fate and transport of heavy metals in the vadose zone as part of the Fourth International Conference on the Biogeochemistry of Trace Elements, held in Berkeley, California in June of 1997. This was one of a series of international conferences held to explore the emerging issues of the biogeochemistry of heavy metals in the environment.

Ground water is a source for drinking and industrial water supply and pollution created by active industrial sites which often cause social, health, and environmental problems. This groundwater eventually drains into adjacent water sources. Filtration Materials for Groundwater: A Guide to Good Practice presents the up-to-date technology of purification of polluted ground water, its treatment for industrial and human needs and the remediation of polluted sites. The book examines: Types of pollutants in ground water including the main inorganic and organic pollutants and their behaviour. Filtration materials for water treatment and principles of their choice. How to choose suitable filtration materials according to targeted compounds and estimate its efficiency. Technologies for ground water treatment. Cost and risks estimation of treatment facilities. Lifetime, risks and cost estimation of technology. Examples of modern ongoing facilities for ground water treatment and polluted sites remediation. This book is of interest to scientists and engineer who deal with the problem of purification of ground water for different purposes and the remediation of polluted sites.

Nickel In Soils And Plants written by Christos Tsadilas and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-09-03 with Nature categories.

Soils with high Ni contents occur in several parts of the world, especially in areas with ultramafic rocks which cause serious environmental impacts. This book aims to extend the knowledge on the risks and problems caused by elevated Ni contents and to cover the existing gaps on issues related to various aspects and consequences of high Ni contents in soils and plants. Nickel in Soils and Plants brings together discussions on Ni as a trace element and as a micronutrient essential for plant growth and its role in plant physiology. It analyzes the biogeochemistry of Ni at the soil plant interface, and explains its behavior in the rhizosphere resulting in Ni deficiency or toxicity, or Ni tolerance of various Ni hyperaccumulators. Included are Ni resources and sources, the origin of soil Ni, its geochemical forms in soils and their availability to plants, a special reference on soils enriched with geogenic Ni, such as serpentine soils, and the special characteristics of those ecosystems. Recent advancements in methods of Ni speciation, including the macroscale and X- ray absorption spectroscopy studies as well as serious views on Ni kinetics, are also covered. Written by a team of internationally recognized researchers and expert contributors, this comprehensive work addresses the practical aspects of managing Ni in soils and plants for agricultural production, and managing soils with high Ni levels by using organic and inorganic amendments. The text also addresses practical measures related to Ni toxicity in plants, the removal and recovery of Ni from high Ni wastes, and offers environmentally friendly innovative processes for mining Ni from soils containing high Ni levels.
