This is the first full-scale study of the life and work of Argentine artist Xul Solar (1887-1963), who was born Oscar Agustin Alejandro Schulz Solari in Buenos Aires. A gregarious eccentric, Xul Solar played a prominent role in the Argentine avant-garde of the 1920s, which included Jorge Luis Borges and such visiting luminaries as Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, the Italian Futurist leader. Xul Solar went on to create a number of interrelated verbal and visual languages that expressed his identity as an Argentine/Latin American artist as well as a utopian desire for universal brotherhood. Xul Solar left Argentina in 1911 on his way to the Far East, but he went only as far as Europe, where he remained for twelve years. There he absorbed modernist ideas - Symbolism, Expressionism, and Constructivism - and distilled them in a mixture of wit and whimsy. Xul Solar's first exhibition in Europe was held in Milan in 1910; he returned to Buenos Aires in 1924. By 1918 he had formulated a system of pictorial writing called neocriollo (Neo-Creole), designed to be understood all over Latin America. Xul Solar continued to study languages throughout his life, along with philosophy, astrology, Asian religions, and mysticism, and all of these were reflected in his art. His later works included visionary architectural projects and paintings composed mainly of messages.

Animals In Four Worlds written by Stella Snead and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989-09-07 with Art categories.

Animals play a special role in Indian culture. In opposition to deities, they help to frame the human community. Indian philosophy assumes the basic unity of animals and humans and in everyday life animals symbolize various ideas and sentiments. In the realm of Indian art, animals appear everywhere. In this splendid and unique collection of photographs, Stella Snead captures the extraordinary vitality, intelligence, and variety of animals in Indian sculpture found at sites from prehistory through the eighteenth century. Here are cats, peacocks, mongooses, anteaters, cows, hyenas, and tigers, as well as such fantastic creatures as double-bodied lions and elephants with fish tails. Collected from all areas of India, these photographs include images from famous Indian monuments, and museum collections, as well as images from remote sites, some of which have never before been published. Wendy Doniger's essay explores and explains the four worlds or dimensions that animals occupy in Indian thought: nature, the human world, the divine world, and the world of fantasy. George Michell places Indian sculptures of animals in their architectural and art historical context. His chronological survey identifies the location and the subject of the animals photographed and describes the artistic activity of the regions and period from which the photographs are drawn. This beautifully illustrated book will appeal to a wide audience: to those interested in Asian studies, art, architecture, and animals, and to those drawn to Snead's powerful photographs, which capture both the idiosyncratic genius of tiny details and the grand sweep of cosmic symbols.

The oldest yoga institute in the world now brings you the ultimate Sattvik cookbook that will enhance your positivity quotient and become an inseparable part of your life. Ancient Indian texts say that the trigunas-Sattva, Rajas and Tamas-pervade the universe and the human mind. Food that is Sattva is pure, happy, energizing, vitalizing and fulfilling; rajas is stimulating, passionate, ambitious and domineering; and tamas is dull, inactive, heavy and impure. Food influences the mind directly, but the mind can also influence the kind of food you desire. Hence, it's easy for the mind to spiral in a particular direction. Of the three food spirals, only Sattvik has the power that can propel you to a state of happiness, contentment and full of positive energy. The recipes revealed in this book will help you derive the benefits of Sattvik foods along with them being super tasty. In Sattvik cooking, for example, natural sweeteners are most important as they stimulate vata, the primary dosha that controls the other two doshas-pitta and kapha. The recipes will enable millennials to embrace Sattvik food by infusing them with modern-day cuisines from India and around the world, while also understanding the science behind it. Sattvik Cooking uses humble Indian kitchen ingredients to unleash the mind, body and spiritual powers of ancient Vedic foods. The unique selection of recipes will not only satisfy the palates of all age groups, but will also be hugely beneficial for fitness enthusiasts.
