This book, entitled You Can Make It with the Help of God, You’ve Got to Make It, is inspired from growing up in Savannah as a child. The many ordeals that I encountered strengthened my faith in God and brought me to the realization that I could make it through anything with the help of God. I learned from childhood to adulthood that there was nothing too hard for God. From sickness to unemployment and the loss of my parents and husband, these made me shed many tears to find that life was not easy, but knowing that God was with me to provide and protect me all the way to my senior years is amazing. When I moved to New York at nineteen years old and tried to make a living in a small apartment on Jefferson Avenue, I knew things had to change to make a better life for myself. Then at twenty-four years old, I met the man who would be a help to me in my attempt to become who God intended for me to become. At twenty-six years old, I married the man of my dreams, who became a great provider and cared for his children. I am a living witness that God can and will make a way for you when you trust him and know you can make it.

After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, a professor shares the lessons he's learned—about living in the present, building a legacy, and taking full advantage of the time you have—in this life-changing classic. "We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand." —Randy Pausch A lot of professors give talks titled "The Last Lecture." Professors are asked to consider their demise and to ruminate on what matters most to them. And while they speak, audiences can't help but mull over the same question: What wisdom would we impart to the world if we knew it was our last chance? If we had to vanish tomorrow, what would we want as our legacy? When Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon, was asked to give such a lecture, he didn't have to imagine it as his last, since he had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. But the lecture he gave—"Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams"—wasn't about dying. It was about the importance of overcoming obstacles, of enabling the dreams of others, of seizing every moment (because "time is all you have . . . and you may find one day that you have less than you think"). It was a summation of everything Randy had come to believe. It was about living. In this book, Randy Pausch has combined the humor, inspiration and intelligence that made his lecture such a phenomenon and given it an indelible form. It is a book that will be shared for generations to come.

Who is Jesus Christ? You've never met Him in person, and you don't know anyone who has. But there is a way to know who he is. How? Jesus Christ - the divine Person revealed in the Bible - has a unique excellence and a spiritual beauty that speaks directly to our souls and says, "Yes, this is truth." It's like seeing the sun and knowing that it is light, or tasting honey and knowing that it is sweet. The depth and complexity of Jesus shatter our simple mental frameworks. He baffled proud scribes with his wisdom but was understood and loved by children. He calmed a raging storm with a word but would not get himself down from the cross. Look at the Jesus of the Bible. Keep your eyes open, and fill them with the portrait of Jesus in God's Word. Jesus said, "If anyone's will is to do God's will, He will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority." Ask God for the grace to do His will, and you will see the truth of His Son. John Piper has written this book in the hope that all will see Jesus for who he really is and will come to enjoy him above all else.

Writing this book gave me purpose to provide a way to communicate my thoughts to single parents and children. I have worked long and hard to bring this story to light, and I could not have done it without God.

Let the Legends Preach celebrates the past and current legends of black preaching through preserving the sermons that they preached at the Annual E. K. Bailey Expository Preaching Conference. The twenty-four preachers honored in this book received the Living Legend Award for Excellence in Preaching on account of ministries that impacted hundreds of thousands of people across the nation and around the world. Not only does this book lift up preachers that are familiar to so many, names belonging to the great cloud of witnesses in black preaching over the last fifty years, but it also introduces a new generation of preachers to their powerful stories and homiletical wisdom. Each chapter offers readers short biographical sketches on the life and ministry of the preachers that were honored followed by the sermon that they preached or the lecture that they delivered at the annual conference.

How do we live out the message of Jesus in today's ever-changing culture? The church is facing its greatest challenge---and its greatest opportunity---in our postmodern, post-Christian world. God is drawing thousands of spiritually curious 'imperfect people' to become his church---but how are we doing at welcoming them? No Perfect People Allowed shows you how to deconstruct the five main barriers standing between emerging generations and your church by creating the right culture. From inspiring stories of real people once far from God, to practical ideas that can be applied by any local church, this book offers a refreshing vision of the potential and power of the Body of Christ to transform lives today. 'We now are living in a post-Christian America---and that means we must be rethinking ministry through a missionary mindset. What makes this book both unique and extremely helpful is that it is filled with real-life stories of post-Christian people becoming followers of Jesus---not just statistics or data about them.' Dan Kimball, Author, The Emerging Church '. . . John's 'get it' factor with people, lost or found, is something to behold! Reading this book filled me with optimism regarding the next generation of pastors and faith communities . . .' Bill Hybels, Senior Pastor, Willow Creek Community Church No Perfect People Allowed is a timely and necessary word for church leaders in a post Christian culture. John Burke serves up quite a tasty meal full of the rich nutrients that will strengthen the Body of Christ.
