How much of your waking time are you fully awake? On the other hand, how often do you stumble through the day on autopilot, half-asleep and out of contact with yourself, instead of feeling connected and alive? In this astounding book, Steve Taylor suggests that our normal consciousness is really a kind of "sleep" from which we sometimes "wake up" into a more intense and complete reality. He provides what is perhaps the first-ever clear explanation of higher states of consciousness, or "awakening experiences." This work delves into: • the methods we human beings have used throughout history to induce awakening experiences, including meditation, sex, sports, psychedelic drugs, and sleep deprivation • how higher states of consciousness were normal and natural to some of the world’s peoples (and still are, in some cases) • and how we can make "wakefulness" our normal state again. By fully explaining awakening experiences, the author makes them much more accessible, which may lead to a revolution in our psychological development as human beings!

Waking Dreaming Being written by Evan Thompson and has been published by Columbia University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-11-18 with Religion categories.

A renowned philosopher of the mind, also known for his groundbreaking work on Buddhism and cognitive science, Evan Thompson combines the latest neuroscience research on sleep, dreaming, and meditation with Indian and Western philosophy of mind, casting new light on the self and its relation to the brain. Thompson shows how the self is a changing process, not a static thing. When we are awake we identify with our body, but if we let our mind wander or daydream, we project a mentally imagined self into the remembered past or anticipated future. As we fall asleep, the impression of being a bounded self distinct from the world dissolves, but the self reappears in the dream state. If we have a lucid dream, we no longer identify only with the self within the dream. Our sense of self now includes our dreaming self, the "I" as dreamer. Finally, as we meditate—either in the waking state or in a lucid dream—we can observe whatever images or thoughts arise and how we tend to identify with them as "me." We can also experience sheer awareness itself, distinct from the changing contents that make up our image of the self. Contemplative traditions say that we can learn to let go of the self, so that when we die we can witness its dissolution with equanimity. Thompson weaves together neuroscience, philosophy, and personal narrative to depict these transformations, adding uncommon depth to life's profound questions. Contemplative experience comes to illuminate scientific findings, and scientific evidence enriches the vast knowledge acquired by contemplatives.

In Healing Night, sleep and dream expert Rubin Naiman explores sleeping, dreaming, and awakening, going far beyond the science of sleep medicine to reflect on what he believes is the profoundly spiritual nature of night consciousness. Naiman reveals how the erosion of night by artificial light and the devaluation of sleep and dreaming have led to an epidemic of sleep disorders and consequent days of chronically dazed waking consciousness. Drawing on both clinical experience and personal explorations, Naiman offers a fresh look at sleep and dreams, and provides alternative healing practices for sleep disturbances. Moreover, he challenges us to acknowledge our spiritual night blindness and embrace the sacredness of night. This edition was revised in 2009.

Awakening To The Great Sleep War written by Gert Jonke and has been published by Deep Vellum Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-01-03 with Fiction categories.

One of the loveliest riddles of Austrian literature is finally available in English translation: Gert Jonke's 1982 novel, Awakening to the Great Sleep War, is an expedition through a world in constant nervous motion, where reality is rapidly fraying—flags refuse to stick to their poles, lids sidle off of their pots, tram tracks shake their stops away like fleas, and books abandon libraries in droves. Our cicerone on this journey through the possible (and impossible) is an "acoustical decorator" by the name of Burgmüller—a poetical gentleman, the lover of three women, able to communicate with birds, and at least as philosophically minded as his author: "Everything has suddenly become so transparent that one can't see through anything anymore." This enormously comic—and equally melancholic—tale is perhaps Jonke's masterwork.

Humanity has recently entered an extraordinary period of transition in which it is preparing to make a quantum, transformational leap to a higher level of consciousness and reality known as the Fifth Dimension--forever leaving behind all experiences of fear, conflict, pain, sorrow and duality. As veils of forgetfulness and dysfunctional patterns begin to dissolve in this Shift, we are at the dawn of an entirely new era on the planet: life lived from love, peace, cooperation, abundance, and reverence for all existence. AWAKENING TO THE FIFTH DIMENSION is an indispensable guide for this journey into uncharted new territory in consciousness, which may include unprecedented experiences of freedom, joy and expansion as well as significant challenges of disorientation and rapid change. We are invited here into conscious participation in an accelerated evolution as we ascend into the Fifth Dimension. In mapping the territory of this dimensional shift, it is also a call to co-create a New Earth that many of us have deeply longed for. Among its themes: • Common personal experiences during the Shift • Ways to navigate it with ease and grace • Understanding the Dimensions: Third, Fourth and the emerging Fifth • Physical, mental and emotional "Ascension symptoms" • Raising and sustaining your vibration: well-being, happiness, freedom • Stepping into a new multi-dimensional identity • Discovering your mission for assisting the planet through the Shift
