What does mothering mean in different cultures and societies? This book extensively applies biographical and narrative research methods to mothering from international perspectives. This edited collection engages with changing attitudes and approaches to mothering from women’s individual biographical experiences, illuminating how socially anticipated tasks of mothering shaped through interlinking state, media, religious beliefs and broader society are reflected in their identities and individual life choices. Considering trust, rapport, reflexivity and self-care, this collection advances methodological practice in the study of mothers, carers and childless women’s lives.

Crazy Funny written by Lisa A. Guerrero and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-28 with Social Science categories.

This book examines the ways in which contemporary works of black satire make black racial madness legible in ways that allow us to see the connections between suffering from racism and suffering from mental illness. Showing how an understanding of racism as a root cause of mental and emotional instability complicates the ways in which we think about racialized identity formation and the limits of socially accepted definitions of (in)sanity, it concentrates on the unique ability of the genre of black satire to make knowable not only general qualities of mental illness that are so often feared or ignored, but also how structures of racism contribute a specific dimension to how we understand the different ways in which people of color, especially black people, experience and integrate mental instability into their own understandings of subjecthood. Drawing on theories from ethnic studies, popular culture studies, cultural studies, psychoanalysis, and trauma theory to offer critical textual analyses of five different instances of new millennial black satire in television, film, and literature – the television show Chappelle’s Show, the Spike Lee film Bamboozled, the novel The White Boy Shuffle by Paul Beatty, the novels Erasure and I Am Not Sidney Poitier by Percival Everett, and the television show Key & Peele – Crazy Funny presents an account of the ways in which contemporary black satire rejects the boundaries between sanity and insanity as a way to animate the varied dimensions of being a racialized subject in a racist society.

Would you like to be appreciated by the people around you? What if I told you that with just a few lines you could impress whoever you want? Have you ever noticed that the people you love the most are the people who make you laugh? Laughter, an involuntary contagious reaction, is a way to connect with others and convey information about social situations. Laughter can relieve feelings of discomfort, anger or sadness and has the power to make you feel close to others. Laughing is a reaction that involves the brain, usually the instinctive part in the case of silly and/or simple jokes and other parts of the brain in the case of more sophisticated and/or intellectual jokes. Some people are fun by nature, but being fun is also a set of skills that can be learned. Here's what you'll learn in this fun guide: - How to understand others through the science of laughter. - Tips for enhancing your image to make a memorable impression. - The art of self-irony to displace anyone. - The anatomy of a joke. - Examples of practical jokes and exercises. - Learn to post videos, photos and viral posts on the internet. - Emergency manoeuvres if you don't like your jokes. By using the techniques provided in this manual you will be exceptionally entertaining without ever getting taken for a clown or being considered an idiot. Unlike other publications, this book is not aimed at experienced actors or comedians. Anyone can use it, and it doesn't read like a university course. The examples and exercises provided can be put into practice right away! You will be more successful if you know how to make people laugh. When you finish reading this book, which is actually a crash course, the "diploma" you will receive will not be a scroll with your name on it, but invaluable knowledge and tools on the science of laughter, helping you to be a great person to be with; a person who expresses joy and confidence. What are you waiting for?

Poseur written by Marc Spitz and has been published by Da Capo Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-02-12 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Marc Spitz assumed that if he lived like his literary and rock 'n' roll heroes, he would become a great artist, too. He conveniently overlooked the fact that many of them died young, broke, and miserable. In his candid, wistful, touching, and hilarious memoir, Poseur, the music journalist, playwright, author, and blogger recounts his misspent years as a suburban kid searching for authenticity, dangerous fun, and druggy, downtown glory: first during New York's last era of risk and edge, the pre-gentrification '90s, and finally as a flamboyant and notorious rock writer, partying and posing during the music industry's heady, decadent last gasp. Part profane, confidential tell-all and part sweetly frank coming-of-age tale, this dirty, witty memoir finds Spitz careening through the scene, meeting and sometimes clashing with cultural icons like Courtney Love, Jeff Buckley, Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, Chloëevigny, Kim Deal, The Dandy Warhols, Guns N' Roses, Ryan Adams, Paul Rudd, Coldplay, Pavement, Peter Dinklage, Julie Bowen, The Strokes, Trent Reznor, Chuck Klosterman, Interpol, and Franz Ferdinand, as well as meeting heroes like Allen Ginsberg, Shirley Clarke, Joe Strummer, and Morrissey. Along the way he finds literary guru Gordon Lish is a long-lost relative, and erstwhile pal and sensation JT LeRoy is an even bigger poseur. Spitz refuses to give up the romantic ghost until a post-9/11 breakdown and an improbable new love (fellow music writer Lizzy Goodman) finally help him strike the hardest pose of all: his true self. /DIV
