Young Hearts Run Free written by Dave Haslam and has been published by HarperCollins UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Great Britain categories.

The 1970s is a decade frequently miscast; a parade of fashion disasters backed by a soundtrack of glam rock or frothy, mainstream disco. The generation who grew up in the 1970s remember the decade differently: inflation, strikes, and power cuts; the rise of the National Front; IRA terror campaigns on the British mainland; women's liberation; 'Mean Streets'; 'Taxi Driver' and 'Apocalypse Now'. 'Young Hearts Run Free' tells the story of the 1970s, celebrating the musicians and songs that illuminated the ideas, fashions and sexual revolutions of the decade including: the politicised soul and funk of Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye, the Punk explosion, New Wave, David Bowie and Ziggy Stardust, gay disco, the Stooges, Patti Smith, the Raincoats, Cabaret Voltaire, the Specials, and black British reggae. 'Young Hearts Run Free' uses in-depth research, drawing not only on interviews with musicians, writers, and artists but also a wide range of representatives of the 70s generation. They introduce us to life and music away from the mainstream: nothing bland, nothing obvious, definitely not Abba.

Destructive Desires written by Robert J. Patterson and has been published by Rutgers University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-05 with Music categories.

Despite rhythm and blues culture’s undeniable role in molding, reflecting, and reshaping black cultural production, consciousness, and politics, it has yet to receive the serious scholarly examination it deserves. Destructive Desires corrects this omission by analyzing how post-Civil Rights era rhythm and blues culture articulates competing and conflicting political, social, familial, and economic desires within and for African American communities. As an important form of black cultural production, rhythm and blues music helps us to understand black political and cultural desires and longings in light of neo-liberalism’s increased codification in America’s racial politics and policies since the 1970s. Robert J. Patterson provides a thorough analysis of four artists—Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Adina Howard, Whitney Houston, and Toni Braxton—to examine black cultural longings by demonstrating how our reading of specific moments in their lives, careers, and performances serve as metacommentaries for broader issues in black culture and politics.

No Tea No Shade written by E. Patrick Johnson and has been published by Duke University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-09-16 with Social Science categories.

The follow-up to the groundbreaking Black Queer Studies, the edited collection No Tea, No Shade brings together nineteen essays from the next generation of scholars, activists, and community leaders doing work on black gender and sexuality. Building on the foundations laid by the earlier volume, this collection's contributors speak new truths about the black queer experience while exemplifying the codification of black queer studies as a rigorous and important field of study. Topics include "raw" sex, pornography, the carceral state, gentrification, gender nonconformity, social media, the relationship between black feminist studies and black trans studies, the black queer experience throughout the black diaspora, and queer music, film, dance, and theater. The contributors both disprove naysayers who believed black queer studies to be a passing trend and respond to critiques of the field's early U.S. bias. Deferring to the past while pointing to the future, No Tea, No Shade pushes black queer studies in new and exciting directions. Contributors. Jafari S. Allen, Marlon M. Bailey, Zachary Shane Kalish Blair, La Marr Jurelle Bruce, Cathy J. Cohen, Jennifer DeClue, Treva Ellison, Lyndon K. Gill, Kai M. Green, Alexis Pauline Gumbs, Kwame Holmes, E. Patrick Johnson, Shaka McGlotten, Amber Jamilla Musser, Alison Reed, Ramón H. Rivera-Servera, Tanya Saunders, C. This Will Be The Death Of Me written by Rose Rutland and has been published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-10-22 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

This autobiography depicts the author's haunting memories, frustrations of ignorance (darkness) as a child, and the confusion that escorted introverted Rose Rutland into a season of promiscuity as a young woman and an unplanned pregnancy, then ultimately into attempting suicide. It also shows the tricks and tactics of the enemy, how he played and preyed upon her to bring her to that place of hopelessness. This young Black woman, Rose, struggles to understand what is happening to her amid the ignorance (darkness) that slowly overtakes her throughout her life. Ignorance, ranging from parents' love, sibling rivalry, neglect, guns, men, sex, abortion, abuse, lies, secrets, misunderstandings, dreams, visions, angels, God, and eternity. Despite it all, Rose pushes toward the unknown. God wanted this book written to knock on the doors of hearts that are crying out for help, as mine was. Writing this book brought back memories that used to make me cry. Being led of God to write it I cried not for pain of those memories. I wept over the Love God showed through it all. And I laughed at the foolishness of that dead little girl. This book is an answer to someone's cry. May this book increase hope and faith in God, open blind eyes, and set the captives free.
