"The potential of Christian youth is unlimited. This incredible potential calls for a deeper understanding of their needs and problems, and a biblical, Christ-centered, and Spirit-empowered ministry to them. With this in mind, the editors have drawn upon the expertise of knowledgeable and successful youth leaders from all over the country to present basic plans, programs, and ideas to aid in ministry to youth. The objective of this book is to enable one to build a biblical philosophy of youth work. It stresses that the major thrust of youth ministry should not be on problem solving but on helping youth to become aware of the possibilities found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. Many areas of outreach to young people are discussed including Sunday school, weekday clubs, camping, and recreational activities. Advice is offered concerning ways to choose sponsors and leaders. Here is a unique and comprehensive resource tool dealing with all aspects of youth ministry-- an important book for youth pastors and those involved in youth work."--Jacket.

This book brings together selected lectures presented at the Education, Formation and the Church conference held in Kampen, August 2018. The key issue tackled by all contributors is how we can properly understand formation in the formative contexts of school and Church. The urgency of the topic is experienced by many people committed to the faith development of children and young people. Changes in society bring uncertainty and anxiety to churches, schools and families. Some Christian communities are inclined to protect their members from the perceived negative influences of the post-Christian age, while others equip them with tools to become virtuous disciples of Christ in modern society. These all are faithful efforts that seek the best for the future generation. Different responses to the challenges in society affect the various contexts in which formation is at stake, including schools, youth work, catechism and the training of pastors. The reflections in this book are intended to support people involved in these contexts in their future efforts. Scholars working in the domains of education and practical theology share their perspectives. Contributors are Bram de Muynck, Roel Kuiper, David I. Smith, Trevor Cooling, Bernd Wannenwetsch, Hans Schaeffer, Maarten Kater and Ferdi Kruger.

Since 1993, forty-nine theological seminaries have created opportunities for high school students to participate in on-campus High School Theology Programs (HSTPs) that invite them to engage in serious biblical and theological study. Many of the young people who take part in these programs go on to become pastoral or lay leaders in their churches. What has made these programs so successful -- especially given the well-documented "crisis of faith" among young people today? In this book thirteen contributors -- many of whom have created or led one of these innovative theology programs -- investigate answers to this question. They examine the pedagogical practices the HSTPs have in common and explore how they are contributing to the leadership of the church. They then show how the lessons gleaned from these successful programs can help churches, denominations, and seminaries reimagine both theological education and youth ministry.

Young People And Church Since 1900 written by Naomi Thompson and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-08-04 with Religion categories.

When the Sunday School pioneers saw a need in their communities in the late eighteenth century, their response provoked a 200 year movement. These early Sunday Schools met a clear social need: that for basic education. By the 1960s, they faced rapid decline – a rigid institution amidst societal change. Over recent decades, Christian youth work has emerged as a response to further youth decline within churches. Many youth workers engage with young people’s self-perceived needs by delivering open-access youth provision in their local communities alongside more specifically Christian activities. Tensions emerge over whether the youth worker’s role is to serve community or church needs, with churches often emphasising the desire to see young people in services. Drawing together historical and contemporary research, Young People and Church Since 1900 identifies patterns and change in young people’s engagement with organised Christianity across time. Through this, it provides a unique analysis of the engagement and exclusion of young people in three key time periods, 1900–1910, 1955–1972, and the present day. Whilst much commentary on religious decline has focused on changes external to churches, this text draws out the internal decisions and processes that have affected the longevity of Christianity in England. This book will be of interest to researchers and scholars of young people and Christianity in the twentieth century and today, as well as youth ministry students and practitioners and those interested in youth decline in churches more widely.

Youth Ministry written by Lawrence O. Richards and has been published by Zondervan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990-12-19 with Religion categories.

Understanding youth culture in a particular time and place is one of the foundation stones upon which youth leaders build a youth ministry. Christian education, according to Richards, is the teaching and learning of Christian faith as culture--the reshaping of personalities into the image of Christ. The thesis of this book is that youth ministry must be viewed as youth and adults involved together in Scripture, in a body-of-Christ relationship, and in life. Richards shows what is involved in each of these elements as well as how to organize and program a ministry that, through such involvement, will lead young people to Christian maturity.

Passing On The Faith written by Merton P. Strommen and has been published by Saint Mary's Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Christian education categories.

From the Introduction This book is about passing on the faith from generation to generation, throughout the milestones of a person's life. Faith is created and nurtured by the Holy Spirit through the Gospels. The vision underlying the RADICAL model was developed in light of the theological principle that faith is formed by the Holy Spirit through personal, trusted relationships, often, but not always, in our own homes. A youth and family ministry for the 21st century connects all the generations in the total ministry of the congregation and, through the cross of Christ, recognizes the work of the Holy Spirit shaping faith in all the circles of relationships. This revised edition expands on the authors' original model in an all-new chapter on the circle of creation. This edition has also been updated throughout in light of new ideas and research that have emerged during the past decade.
