Ärgerliche Wirtshäuser, ergötzliche Häfen, empfindsame Kerker: Räume und Emotionen bilden emotionale Topografien, mit deren Hilfe sich die Akteure die Welt als Lebenswelt ordnen und aneignen. Der Autor untersucht den Zusammenhang zwischen Bewegung in frühneuzeitlichen Räumen und der emotionalen Bewegtheit der Akteure. Er kommt zu dem Schluss, dass Emotionen und Räume dabei nicht nur passiv erlebt, sondern aktiv vollzogen werden. Denn es handelt sich bei beiden um wechselseitig verbundene Handlungsanweisungen, die in Regeln, Topoi und Vorstellungen münden. Die sich ergebenden Verflechtungen nehmen verschiedene Formen an, die in kulturell, sozial und individuell bedingten emotionalen Topografien kulminieren, also in Anordnungen von Räumen und zugehörigen Emotionen. In dieser Struktur liegen somit Erklärungen für das Verhalten der Akteure verborgen. From the joyfull harbor to the annoying pub and into the sentimental prison. To operate in these early modern spaces demands concurrently an emotional operation of the actors. Emotions and spaces are not only passively perceived but actively implemented. Both entities are reciprocally interconnected handling instructions which are transformed into rules, topoi and concepts. The resulting interconnections assume various forms that culminate in culturally, socially and individually related emotional topographies. The culmination climaxes in formation of spaces and their respective emotions. With these interconnections actors are enabled to construct, deploy and assume the world as their own lifeworld. This structure reveals explanations for the behavior of the actors.

Correctly judging situations plays a large role in everyday life – it ́s not always easy to determine the right thing to do, and only then can one actually do the right thing: properly deciding between two or more possible alternatives.This volume shows the necessity of making a scientific analysis of the various ways of reaching ethical competence. It demonstrates the various forms and nature of judgment within a scientific-theological and interdisciplinary research context, having resulted from a common discourse of Christian and Jewish theology as well as jurisprudence. The basic questions are discussed and compared to the perspective about learning to judge that is not innate: Moral education demands positive and workable paths in which children and adolescents as well as adults can practice executing proper judgement. For this reason a number of example contexts with an ethical background – in education, worklife and the legal system – are examined in detail.

Die Baikal-Amur-Magistrale war das größte Prestigeprojekt der späten Sowjetunion. Begonnen hatte der Bau dieser sibirischen Eisenbahnstrecke in den Lagern der stalinistischen Gewaltherrschaft. Unter Brežnev wurde das Projekt dann als "Bauvorhaben des Jahrhunderts" aus der Versenkung geholt und mit großem Aufwand als Vorstoß in die sowjetische Moderne inszeniert. Was versprach man sich davon? Wie funktionierten Propaganda und Mobilisierung der Bauleute? Wie ging man mit den Ureinwohnern Sibiriens um und wie mit ökologischen Problemen? Diesen Fragen geht das Buch ebenso nach wie der Frage, wie die Menschen in den Lagern und später beim Bahnbau lebten, welche Erwartungen sie hegten und mit welchen Problemen sie zu kämpfen hatten. Die Geschichte der BAM ist ein Spiegel der russischen Geschichte im 20. Jahrhundert. Johannes Grützmachers Werk wurde mit dem Klaus-Mehnert-Preis zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses 2010 der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Osteuropakunde ausgezeichnet.

The anthology explores interactions between functional, aesthetic, spiritual and ethical aspects in view of a »livable architecture« in public space. The contributions ask about the interdependencies between these dimensions and place a particular emphasis on the perceptible form of the church in society. For this purpose, concepts of the cultural and social-scientific »spatial turn« are used. According to this perspective, space is viewed less as a physical-territorial concept and more as an action-theoretical concept: space is created in social and cultural practice and underlines claims to power.
