Excerpt from Zeitschrift fur Celtische Philologie, 1901, Vol. 3 There are three copies of the following tale of treachery, love, self-devotion, and vengeance, one (ll) in the Book of Leinster, pp. 269, 270 of the lithographic facsimile, another (r) in Rawlinson B. 502, ff. 71, 72, a ms. Of the twelfth century in the Bodleian library, and the third (yel) in the Yellow Book of Lecan, cols. 754 - 756 pp. 112, 113a of the photolithograph published in 1896. The three 00pies substantially agree. But LL is slightly fuller than the others, and is therefore made the basis of the following edition. The variae lectiones of B and yel are given as footnotes. Excerpt from Zeitschrift für Celtische Philologie, 1897, Vol. 1 Die irische Negationspartikel na' ni hat zwei Funktionen. Erstens negiert sie das \'erbum finitum in Haupt-sätzen und nach gewissen Konjunktionen auch in Nebensätzen. Zweitens steht sie vor Priidikativen und vertritt dann die negierte (30pula non est bisweilen auch non sunt. Im ersten Fall asrfiriert. Sie den folgenden Anlautskonsonanten, im Altirischen zwar nicht kon sequent. Gleich allen ähnlichen prätonischeu Partikeln, im Mittel irischen ziemlich regelmässigfi) Dagegen in der Bedeutung non est aspiriert sie niemals. Weder im Alt noch im Mittelirischen, und vor betonten Vokalen erscheint im Mittelirischen stets ein 71 vorgeschlagen: ni I1-1'nnrac'c 'es ist nicht recht', ni 71-cd 'es ist nicht das', ni h-ann 'es ist nicht dort' etc. Dass dieses 71 schon in altirischer Zeit gesprochen wurde, ist hier wie in allen ähnlichen Fällen selbstverständlich. Nur konnte es nicht be zeichnet werden weil das altirische Alphabet kein Zeichen für den Hauchlaut besass. Der Buchstabe 71 war im Altirischen wie im Spätlatein stumm und diente um zum beliebigen Schmuck vokalischen Anlauts oder in Verbindung mit p, t, 0 zur Be zeichnung der Spiranteu f, 19, Das n1ittelirische 11 nach vokalischem Auslaut. Zeigt bekanntlich an, dass das Wort ur sprü11glich auf einen Konsonanten endigte, besonders oft auf - s.3) So auch hier.
