ZOOLEXICON is a one-volume source for terms referring to mammals, birds, fishes, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. It has two major divisions: . A dictionary of 13,000 non-technical entry words used by English-speaking people around the world. It is extensively cross-referenced between preferred common names and locally accepted ones. . Appendixes of two basic types: the first group deals with domesticated animals individually, telling of their ancestral roots, breeds, including a glossary of terms applying to each animal. The second group covers a wide range of subjects from terms used in blood sports to animals important in mythology, symbolism, and heraldry. There are terms used in the fur trade as well as in butchering and carving. There are words for sounds made by animals, for their tails, and for their excreta-secreta. There are flip-flop lists of group names, derivative words, feeding terms, and niches. ZOOLEXICON is a library and consumer reference of value to writers, editors, professionals in wildlife management, conservation, ecology, and zoo administration; research scientists and technicians in all fields of zoology; journalists; educators and information officers in classrooms, nature reserves, museums and zoos; birders, wildlife and pet enthusiasts, and word-puzzle constructors and solvers. Fela Anikulapo Kuti written by Adeshina Afolayan and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-01-13 with Music categories.

Fela Anikulapo Kuti was the Afrobeat music maestro whose life and time provide the lens through which we can outline the postcolonial trajectory of the Nigerian state as well as the dynamics of most other African states. Through the Afrobeat music, Fela did not only challenge consecutive governments in Nigeria, but his rebellious Afrobeat lyrics facilitate a philosophical subtext that enriches the more intellectual Afrocentric discourses. Afrobeat and the philosophy of blackism that Fela enunciated place him right beside Malcolm X, Kwame Nkrumah, Marcus Garvey, and all the others who champion a black and African mode of being in the world. This book traces the emergence of Fela on the music scene, the cultural and political backgrounds that made Afrobeat possible, and the philosophical elements that not only contributed to the formation of Fela's blackism, but what constitutes Fela's philosophical sensibility too.

More than two centuries have passed since the publication of William Bartram's Travels in 1791. That his book remains in print would be notable enough, but Bartram's work was visionary. It fostered the development of a truly American strain of natural history. His writings transcended scientific boundaries to deeply influence Coleridge, Wordsworth, and other Romantic poets. And his text continues to ignite the imaginations of Southerners who love nature. Bartram's ability to marry science with poetry ensured Travels a worldwide audience for the last 200 years. William Bartram was a cultural historian, too, carefully recording the way in which the Indians used the land along with the changes wrought by European settlers. Being on the road with Bartram involves cliffhanger encounters with dreadful weather, charismatic predators, and even deadlier humans. And throughout the book, Bartram reveals a deep spiritual connection to nature as a manifestation of divine Creation. Bartram's holism lays the foundation for major themes of modern nature writing as well as environmental philosophy. In this unique anthology, for the first time Travels is joined with essays acknowledging the debt Southern nature writers owe the man called the "South's Thoreau." We hope this book will introduce a new generation of environmentally minded Southerners to Bartram's timeless work, not only standing on its own but also interpreted through passionate, personal essays by some of the region's finest nature writers. Rather than wallowing in nostalgia for the long-gone world Bartram describes, this anthology provides us with a starting point for reconstructing and reclaiming the natural heritage of the South.
