How can silence be described as an originary-linguistic figuration of elimination? This question will be discussed in eight contemporary works. They focus on negatively connotated types of silence in the context of traumatic experiences: (1) "Schweigen-Wollen" (defensive silence), (2) "Schweigen-Sollen" (repressive silence), (3) "Schweigen-Müssen" (overwhelmed silence) and (4) "Schweigen-Aushalten". The works show, that silence – in the sense of a communicative action – has a negative effect on remembrance and identity designs of the figures and narrators. Yet, it advances into a productive moment of structurisation and form giving when used in the sense of a narrative strategy. Based on narratological thoughts this work makes approaches of linguistics, memory research, psychotraumatology and narrative identity theory fertile for text interpretation. With regard to trauma research, it provides an actualisation of the motive history of silence.

The contributions compiled in this volume comprise studies of Jewish texts - biblical, rabbinic, medieval, and modern - as well as of patristic and medieval Christian texts, and in one case, a passage of the Muslim text par excellence, the Quran. The authors, scholars in the fields of Jewish Studies, Catholic and Protestant Theology, Islamic Studies, German philology etc., invited to reflect on texts of their respective disciplines in context-sensitive interpretations, taking into account the link connecting Midrash, hermeneutics, and narrative, provide illuminating narratological and/or hermeneutical insights into the texts in question. The interdisciplinary dialogue that characterized the conference "Narratology, Hermeneutics, and Midrash" that gave rise to the volume proves to be rich and full of potential for further research in the direction proposed by the Series Poetics, Exegesis and Narrative. Studies in Jewish literature and art.

Animal Narratology written by Joela Jacobs and has been published by MDPI this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-12-15 with Social Science categories.

Animal Narratology interrogates what it means to narrate, to speak—speak for, on behalf of—and to voice, or represent life beyond the human, which is in itself as different as insects, bears, and dogs are from each other, and yet more, as individual as a single mouse, horse, or puma. The varied contributions to this interdisciplinary Special Issue highlight assumptions about the human perception of, attitude toward, and responsibility for the animals that are read and written about, thus demonstrating that just as “the animal” does not exist, neither does “the human”. In their zoopoetic focus, the analyses are aware that animal narratology ultimately always contains an approximation of an animal perspective in human terms and terminology, yet they make clear that what matters is how the animal is approximated and that there is an effort to approach and encounter the non-human in the first place. Many of the analyses come to the conclusion that literary animals give readers the opportunity to expand their own points of view both on themselves and others by adopting another’s perspective to the degree that such an endeavor is possible. Ultimately, the contributions call for a recognition of the many spaces, moments, and modes in which human lives are entangled with those of animals—one of which is located within the creative bounds of storytelling.

The Song of Songs is a fascinating text. Read as an allegory of God’s love for Israel, the Church, or individual believers, it became one of the most influential texts from the Bible. This volume includes twenty-three essays that cover the Song’s reception history from antiquity to the present. They illuminate the richness of this reception history, paying attention to diverse interpretations in commentaries, sermons, and other literature, as well as the Song’s impact on spirituality, theological and intellectual debates, and the arts.
