In einer analogen Krise befindet sich auch der zeitgenössische Intellektuelle in Schwarzafrika, da im Zuge der Begegnung mit Europa weder die eigene Tradition noch der europäische »modus vivendi« zur Bewältigung der modernen Existenz ausreichen.Diese Situation der Orientierungslosigkeit legt das Befragen der eigenen Tradition auf ihre Relevanz für das heutige Leben hin nahe. Die Studie zeigt: Ähnlich wie Heidegger beziehen die afrikanischen Philosophen Towa und Elungu die Dimension der Herkunft auf die Zukunft. Daraus ergeben sich Konsequenzen, wie ein Dialog zwischen dem afrikanischen und dem abendländischen Weltverständnis bei aller Verschiedenheit möglich ist und fruchtbar werden kann.
