Obwohl jüdische Instanzen die Frage, wer Jude sei, in der Vergangenheit durchaus unterschiedlich beantwortet haben, ist die Zuordnung der messianischen Juden heute eine hochkomplexe und problematische Angelegenheit. Die Herangehensweise an das Thema erfolgt durch konkrete Einblicke in Geschichte und Gegenwart ihrer Gemeinden in Jerusalem. Deutlich wird dabei, dass z.B. die Hebräisch sprechenden Katholiken, zu denen auch Jüdinnen und Juden gehören, sich selbst nicht den messianischen Juden zurechnen und zudem die Judenmission ablehnen.
