Most people outside Italy know Pier Paolo Pasolini for his films, many of which began as literary works—Arabian Nights, The Gospel According to Matthew, The Decameron, and The Canterbury Tales among them. What most people are not aware of is that he was primarily a poet, publishing nineteen books of poems during his lifetime, as well as a visual artist, novelist, playwright, and journalist. Half a dozen of these books have been excerpted and published in English over the years, but even if one were to read all of those, the wide range of poetic styles and subjects that occupied Pasolini during his lifetime would still elude the English-language reader. For the first time, Anglophones will now be able to discover the many facets of this singular poet. Avoiding the tactics of the slim, idiosyncratic, and aesthetically or politically motivated volumes currently available in English, Stephen Sartarelli has chosen poems from every period of Pasolini’s poetic oeuvre. In doing so, he gives English-language readers a more complete picture of the poet, whose verse ranged from short lyrics to longer poems and extended sequences, and whose themes ran not only to the moral, spiritual, and social spheres but also to the aesthetic and sexual, for which he is most known in the United States today. This volume shows how central poetry was to Pasolini, no matter what else he was doing in his creative life, and how poetry informed all of his work from the visual arts to his political essays to his films. Pier Paolo Pasolini was “a poet of the cinema,” as James Ivory says in the book’s foreword, who “left a trove of words on paper that can live on as the fast-deteriorating images he created on celluloid cannot.” This generous selection of poems will be welcomed by poetry lovers and film buffs alike and will be an event in American letters.

" (Dall' "Introduzione" dell'autrice) ---For the English readers This book published in 2009 is an expansion of the essay "Riformulazione e decostruzione dell'identità cattolica nel film La ricotta di Pier Paolo Pasolini", presented at the conference in Italian studies, 'Italy on Screen', held at the Institute of Germanic and Romance Studies, in London, in February 2007 (Senate House). It was republished in the academic collection of articles, "Italy on Screen", edited by Lucy Bolton and Christina Siggers Manson (Peter Lang, London, 2011). The content of this essay, Pasolini's La ricotta and clerical censorship has been vastly acknowledged by the academic community as being a new historical and thematic approach to censorship, and an original thought-provoking contribution to clerical censorship against Pasolini's cinematic treatment of the sacred. Erminia Passannanti has published her findings on Italian cinema and clerical censorship in two separate monographs, "Il Cristo dell'eresia. Pasolini cinema e censura" (Joker, 2009), and "La ricotta. Il sacro trasgredito. Cinema e censura clericale nei film di Pasolini" (2009). In Italian, essays on Pasolini's relation to the sacred and clerical censorship, by Passannanti, are included in the collective volumes, "La Nuova Gioventù? Eredità di Pier Paolo Pasolini" (Ed. Manuela Patti, Joker, 2009), and in "Italian film directors in the new Millennium, 2011." (ed. William Hope)"

Urban Narratives And The Spaces Of Rome written by Gregory Smith and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-19 with Science categories.

This book foregrounds the works of Pier Paolo Pasolini to study the Roman periphery and examine the relevance of Pasolini’s vision in the construction of subaltern identity and experience. It analyses the contemporary Italian society to understand the problem of social exclusion of marginal communities. Narrative studies are at the core of the contemporary social science research. This book uses narrative analysis to unpack the deeper meaning of Rome’s stigmatized periphery through an interplay of Italian cinema, literature, and social and political climates. It encourages a positive interpretation of the Roman periphery through its characterization as a homogeneous area of marginality as emphasized in Pasolini’s writings and films on Rome. This re-evaluation left a lasting impact on the modern periphery and the narratives of ordinary citizens as evident in contemporary street art and popular musical production. Pasolini’s revolutionary vision allows us to appreciate the human and aesthetic character of urban life in regions beyond the main urban areas. The respect for subaltern urban communities encouraged by this book can be extended from Rome to other parts of the world. This book presents an interconnection of social theory, geography, poetry, literature, film and the visual arts to study the experience of life in underprivileged urban areas. Written in an accessible style, the book offers a reimagining of the Roman periphery which will appeal to readers in France, Spain, Italy, Australia, areas which have significant interest in Italian studies and the works of Pasolini.

Revolutionary Desire In Italian Cinema written by Luana Ciavola and has been published by Troubador Publishing Ltd this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Performing Arts categories.

Revolutionary Desire in Italian Cinema is the first book to draw on psychoanalytical concepts and film theories to examine the critical tendency of Italian cinema and the way in which auteur Italian filmmakers have expressed their counter-ideological thought and criticism against Italian society. The book examines how by being committed to Italian social reality, Italian cinema expresses a desire for revolt against the status quo and the dominant ideological order. Taking as case studies Bernardo Bertolucci’s Prima della rivoluzione, Marco Bellocchio’s I pugni in tasca, Pier Paolo Pasolini’s Porcile, Nanni Moretti’s Ecce Bombo and La messa è finita, the book relies on socio-historiographical theories through which Luana Ciavola discusses how plot and characters create a sense of revolt against the both social order and values such as family, religion and bourgeois ethics. The book confirms the central role of Italian cinema in a historical and political context, insofar as it includes a substantial background which highlights aspects of Italian history never considered before in a study on Italian cinema. Revolutionary Desire in Italian Cinema is aimed at academics, researchers, undergraduate and postgraduate students and all lovers of Italian cinema.
