What’s the secret to great Latin-inspired food? Create layers of flavor that unfold with every bite. Lorena Garcia takes one of America’s hottest cuisine trends out of the restaurant and into the home kitchen, where everyone can enjoy it. Working from a base of standard pantry items that make replicating and extending these meals a snap, Garcia shows everyday cooks how to add a Latin accent to just about any dish, from meatballs to marinara. Want comfort food with flair? Who can resist such flavorful go-to dishes as • Smashed Guacamole • Creamy Roasted Corn Soup • Salmon Taquitos with Roasted Habanero Salsita • Mango BBQ Baby Back Ribs Still have room for dessert? Garcia’s are as simple as they are satisfying: Sticky Arroz con Pollo de Leche, Caramelized Vanilla Figs with Goat Cheese and Grilled Papaya, Spicy Chocolate Mousse—sweet finishing touches to a perfectly prepared meal. "Jorge Comensal's The Mutations oscillates masterfully between comedy and tragedy, gathering up in its pages a stupendous panoply of characters before whom the reader is never sure whether to smile in sympathy or pity."—Fernando Aramburu, author of Homeland Ramón Martinez is a militant atheist, successful lawyer, and conventional family man. But all of that changes when cancer of the tongue deprives him of the source of his power and livelihood: speech. The Mutations, by Jorge Comensal, is a comedy tracing the metastasis of Ramón’s cancer through his body and in the lives of his family members, colleagues, and doctors, dissecting the experience of illness and mapping the relationships both strengthened and frayed by its wake. Mateo and Paulina, his teenage children, struggle with the temptations of masturbation and binge eating, respectively. Ramón’s melancholic oncologist is haunted by the memory of a young patient whom he was unable to save. His selfish pathologist believes Ramón’s tumor holds the key to a major scientific breakthrough. And then there’s Elodia, Ramón’s pious maid, who brings him a foulmouthed parrot as a birthday gift. This lewd bird becomes Ramón’s companion, confidant, and unlikely double. Paying homage to the works of forebears such as Sontag, Didion, Flaubert, and Tolstoy, and filled with a rough-hewn poetry of regret, rage, and finally resignation, The Mutations offers a profound but funny cross section of modern Mexican life, as well as a bold treatment of an unspeakable yet universal reality

Little Women is a novel by American author Louisa May Alcott, which was originally published in two volumes in 1868 and 1869. Alcott wrote the books rapidly over several months at the request of her publisher. The novel follows the lives of four sisters—Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March—detailing their passage from childhood to womanhood, and is loosely based on the author and her three sisters. Little Women "has been read as a romance or as a quest, or both. It has been read as a family drama that validates virtue over wealth", but also "as a means of escaping that life by women who knew its gender constraints only too well".[6]:34 According to Sarah Elbert, Alcott created a new form of literature, one that took elements from Romantic children's fiction and combined it with others from sentimental novels, resulting in a totally new format. Elbert argued that within Little Women can be found the first vision of the "All-American girl" and that her multiple aspects are embodied in the differing March sisters. The book has been adapted for film twice as silent films, and four times with sound, in 1933, 1949, 1978 and 1994. Four television series were made, including two in Britain in the 1950s and two anime series in Japan in the 1980s. A musical version opened on Broadway in 2005. An American opera version in 1998 has been performed internationally and filmed for broadcast on US television in 2001.

Journey to the Center of the Earth was published in 1864. Verne was fascinated with the northern and southern poles of Earth and as Arctic exploration was in its infancy in the mid-19th century, the unknown north was an ideal setting for the imaginative forays of science fiction, a new literary genre. Northern exploration was in the news and Verne was inspired to write a novel based on the premise that the center of the Earth is hollow. This annotated edition includes a biography and critical essay.

The Mysterious Island written by Jules Verne and has been published by The Floating Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-10-01 with Fiction categories.

Although The Mysterious Island is technically a sequel to Vernes' enormously popular Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, this novel offers a vastly different take on similar thematic motifs. As with all of Verne's best-known works, The Mysterious Island is a masterpiece of the action-adventure genre, with a heaping dash of science fiction influence thrown in for good measure.
