Warning! This book is not suitable for youngsters or those of a delicate disposition. Some of the language used would (to borrow a phrase from P.G. Woodhouse) barely have been tolerated in the fo'c'sle of a whaler. It contains several poems of questionable taste and some of the contents could be taken to be condoning, or even glorifying, drunken behaviour. That said, the general consensus from those that have seen the preview is that it is pretty funny. A lot of the poems are to do with sailing and the sea but there are poems on canoeing, narrow boats, kayaks, coracles and even the titanic so hopefully most nautical tastes will be catered for.

Seafarer's are known to tell tales full of boastful yarns. These jaunting tales are flavored in exaggerated verse and fanciful prose which elaborating grow with each retelling. This work is a collection of seafaring poems, sprinkled with various nautical thoughts, that reflect the life of those who have ventured upon the vast oceans. From modern times, to more ancient adventures, when large square-mast vessels roamed the oceans powered by the wind and an adventurous spirit, this collection of poetry will bring to life what lies beyond the vast horizon. The tales within reflect upon the a seafarer's adventures. Told in poetic verse, from the thoughts of those who have cast the lines and risen the sails to voyage upon the ocean. Covered in four sections, from the voyage at sea, to historical reflections, then accompanied by tales of honor, courage, and faith, to conclude with whimsical verses of a sailor's life. Each verse will bring to life those thoughts, adventures, and tragedies of the seafarer's world. The words of a Poet are not likely to be remembered. Words drift with the passage of time, sailing from one port to the next as a wisp, as a breeze of long-past memories, there to linger for a brisk moment before fading into lore. One may remember an enchanted verse, a snippet of a phrase, a catchy limerick, a witty tittle of words, but they soon fade from one's memories. Yet, the adventure must be undertaken. The seas must be crossed. Life must be lived. Whether as a landlubber or a seafarer, the verses within will bring to life the thoughts, struggles, adventures, and meaning of those that have roamed upon the vast oceans. Cast the lines, weigh anchor, and venture toward the unknown seas, and listen to the yarns of A Seafarer's Tale!

Throughout history, poets have felt the ancient pull of the sea, exploring the full range of mankind's nautical fears, dreams, and longings. The colorful legends of the sea-pirates and mermaids, phantom ships and the sunken city of Atlantis-have inspired as many imaginations as have the realities of lighthouses and shipwrecks, of icebergs and frothing foam and seaweed. This marvelous collection includes classics old and new, from Homer and Milton to Plath and Merwin. Here are Tennyson's seductive sea-fairies next to Poe's beloved Annabel Lee. Here is Coleridge's darkly brooding "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" alongside the grandeur of Shakespeare's "Full Fathom Five." And here is Masefield's "I must go down to the seas again" alongside Cavafy's "Ithaka" and Stevens's "The Idea of Order at Key West." In the wide variety of lyrics collected here-sonnets and sea chanteys, ballads and hymns and prayers-we feel the encompassing power of our planet's restless

"The Sea! The Sea! blends poems ancient and modern, well-known and unfamiliar, solemn and light-hearted. As well as English-language poets from the anonymous author of The Seafarer to the present, the book includes a light seasoning of Spanish and French poems to commemorate their countrymen's part in the 1805 Battle of Trafalgar, whose anniversary this book commemorates."--BOOK JACKET.

Excerpt from The Sailing of the Long-Ships and Other Poems Though all the world forbade them, they counted not nor cared, They weighed not help or hindrance, they did the thing they dared. The Sea-kings loved not boasting, cursed not him that cursed, They honored all men duly, and him faced them, first; They strove and knew not hatred, smote and toiled to save, They tended whom they vanquished. "Sailboat is a book of heartfelt poetry that grabs the reader's curiosity, first with the outcome of the book, and then with the originality of the author. In the universal motifs and messages, found throughout the poems of Ratka Bogdan, one senses a rich and diversified life, which is spread across three continents. Nevertheless, the birthplace, that beautiful homeland, as with most authors, is never-ending eternal love..." Danilo Maric, author of "The Mystic Best Man" "Rarely does it happen in a first poetry publication for these four sides of poetry - its east, north, west and south, to be found in the same place! When these four things (loneliness, travel, love, and finding yourself ) are found in one place, the poet is evidently in his/her own center. And it's a great sign for the start of an interesting poetic journey, whose future results are to be expected." Prof. Dr. Venko Andonovski, author of "The Navel of The World" "The gift of this poetry is that it reminds us that although the details of our experiences are different, the emotions we feel about them are universal. With simple, beautiful language, these poems create images that conjure the familiar feelings of love, loss, joy, longing and acceptance. Let it quietly slip into your heart and connect you with the stream to which we all belong." Staci Backauskas, author of "The Fifth Goddess"
