Seafarer's are known to tell tales full of boastful yarns. These jaunting tales are flavored in exaggerated verse and fanciful prose which elaborating grow with each retelling. This work is a collection of seafaring poems, sprinkled with various nautical thoughts, that reflect the life of those who have ventured upon the vast oceans. From modern times, to more ancient adventures, when large square-mast vessels roamed the oceans powered by the wind and an adventurous spirit, this collection of poetry will bring to life what lies beyond the vast horizon. The tales within reflect upon the a seafarer's adventures. Told in poetic verse, from the thoughts of those who have cast the lines and risen the sails to voyage upon the ocean. Covered in four sections, from the voyage at sea, to historical reflections, then accompanied by tales of honor, courage, and faith, to conclude with whimsical verses of a sailor's life. Each verse will bring to life those thoughts, adventures, and tragedies of the seafarer's world. The words of a Poet are not likely to be remembered. Words drift with the passage of time, sailing from one port to the next as a wisp, as a breeze of long-past memories, there to linger for a brisk moment before fading into lore. One may remember an enchanted verse, a snippet of a phrase, a catchy limerick, a witty tittle of words, but they soon fade from one's memories. Yet, the adventure must be undertaken. The seas must be crossed. Life must be lived. Whether as a landlubber or a seafarer, the verses within will bring to life the thoughts, struggles, adventures, and meaning of those that have roamed upon the vast oceans. Cast the lines, weigh anchor, and venture toward the unknown seas, and listen to the yarns of A Seafarer's Tale!

Warning! This book is not suitable for youngsters or those of a delicate disposition. Some of the language used would (to borrow a phrase from P.G. Woodhouse) barely have been tolerated in the fo'c'sle of a whaler. It contains several poems of questionable taste and some of the contents could be taken to be condoning, or even glorifying, drunken behaviour. That said, the general consensus from those that have seen the preview is that it is pretty funny. A lot of the poems are to do with sailing and the sea but there are poems on canoeing, narrow boats, kayaks, coracles and even the titanic so hopefully most nautical tastes will be catered for.

Wireless Operator written by Nikos Kavvadias and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-09-01 with Poetry categories.

Nikos Kavvadías was a Greek poet and sailor, who wrote about the incidents and adventures of life at sea. His poems blend nautical terms and sailors’ slang with romantic imagery. He was born in 1910 in Manchuria and as a teenager in Piraeus joined the merchant navy. He spent almost his whole life at sea, dying in Athens in 1975. He travelled widely as a wireless operator in the merchant marine and while some of his poems relate to exotic ports of call the language remains sober and simple. He is one of those rare poets who succeeds equally on a serious and popular level. Simon Darragh’s translations, the first to be published in England, do justice to his various gifts, both as poet and story-teller.
