The Urtext was given to us directly from God. In December of 1965 an agnostic began hearing the character of Jesus speak to her and by shorthand she took down what he said. Later her shorthand was typed into written form and then condensed and edited into what became known as "A Course in Miracles." However, Jesus said, "the original Urtext was to be called "A Course in Miracles." He made no mention of an edited version. The following paragraph is a quotation from Jesus, and, in my opinion, summarizes the content of the course. "If you are willing to renounce the role of guardian of your thought system and open it to me, I will correct it very gently and lead you back to God. I will teach you and live with you if you will think with me, but my goal will always be to absolve you finally from the need of a teacher. Your worth is not established by teaching or learning. Your worth is established by God. Nothing you do or think or wish or make is necessary to establish your worth. This point is not debatable except in delusion. Your ego is never at stake because God did not create it. Your spirit is never at stake because He did. Any confusion on this point is delusional, and no form of devotion is possible as long as this delusion lasts."I usually consider dictation from God to be delusional, but everything in the Urtext rings true to me.
