This textbook provides a thorough-yet-accessible introduction to function spaces, through the central concepts of integrability, weakly differentiability and fractionally differentiability. In an essentially self-contained treatment the reader is introduced to Lebesgue, Sobolev and BV-spaces, before being guided through various generalisations such as Bessel-potential spaces, fractional Sobolev spaces and Besov spaces. Written with the student in mind, the book gradually proceeds from elementary properties to more advanced topics such as lower dimensional trace embeddings, fine properties and approximate differentiability, incorporating recent approaches. Throughout, the authors provide careful motivation for the underlying concepts, which they illustrate with selected applications from partial differential equations, demonstrating the relevance and practical use of function spaces. Assuming only multivariable calculus and elementary functional analysis, as conveniently summarised in the opening chapters, A Course in Function Spaces is designed for lecture courses at the graduate level and will also be a valuable companion for young researchers in analysis.

This is the first part of the second revised and extended edition of the well established book "Function Spaces" by Alois Kufner, Oldřich John, and Svatopluk Fučík. Like the first edition this monograph is an introduction to function spaces defined in terms of differentiability and integrability classes. It provides a catalogue of various spaces and benefits as a handbook for those who use function spaces in their research or lecture courses. This first volume is devoted to the study of function spaces, based on intrinsic properties of a function such as its size, continuity, smoothness, various forms of a control over the mean oscillation, and so on. The second volume will be dedicated to the study of function spaces of Sobolev type, in which the key notion is the weak derivative of a function of several variables.

A First Course In Sobolev Spaces written by Giovanni Leoni and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Mathematics categories.

Sobolev spaces are a fundamental tool in the modern study of partial differential equations. In this book, Leoni takes a novel approach to the theory by looking at Sobolev spaces as the natural development of monotone, absolutely continuous, and BV functions of one variable. In this way, the majority of the text can be read without the prerequisite of a course in functional analysis. The first part of this text is devoted to studying functions of one variable. Several of the topics treated occur in courses on real analysis or measure theory. Here, the perspective emphasizes their applications to Sobolev functions, giving a very different flavor to the treatment. This elementary start to the book makes it suitable for advanced undergraduates or beginning graduate students. Moreover, the one-variable part of the book helps to develop a solid background that facilitates the reading and understanding of Sobolev functions of several variables. The second part of the book is more classical, although it also contains some recent results. Besides the standard results on Sobolev functions, this part of the book includes chapters on BV functions, symmetric rearrangement, and Besov spaces. The book contains over 200 exercises.

Theory Of Function Spaces Ii written by Hans Triebel and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-08-16 with Juvenile Nonfiction categories.

Theory of Function Spaces II deals with the theory of function spaces of type Bspq and Fspq as it stands at the present. These two scales of spaces cover many well-known function spaces such as Hölder-Zygmund spaces, (fractional) Sobolev spaces, Besov spaces, inhomogeneous Hardy spaces, spaces of BMO-type and local approximation spaces which are closely connected with Morrey-Campanato spaces. Theory of Function Spaces II is self-contained, although it may be considered an update of the author’s earlier book of the same title. The book’s 7 chapters start with a historical survey of the subject, and then analyze the theory of function spaces in Rn and in domains, applications to (exotic) pseudo-differential operators, and function spaces on Riemannian manifolds. ------ Reviews The first chapter deserves special attention. This chapter is both an outstanding historical survey of function spaces treated in the book and a remarkable survey of rather different techniques developed in the last 50 years. It is shown that all these apparently different methods are only different ways of characterizing the same classes of functions. The book can be best recommended to researchers and advanced students working on functional analysis. - Zentralblatt MATH

Fourier Series, Fourier Transforms, and Function Spaces is designed as a textbook for a second course or capstone course in analysis for advanced undergraduate or beginning graduate students. By assuming the existence and properties of the Lebesgue integral, this book makes it possible for students who have previously taken only one course in real analysis to learn Fourier analysis in terms of Hilbert spaces, allowing for both a deeper and more elegant approach. This approach also allows junior and senior undergraduates to study topics like PDEs, quantum mechanics, and signal processing in a rigorous manner. Students interested in statistics (time series), machine learning (kernel methods), mathematical physics (quantum mechanics), or electrical engineering (signal processing) will find this book useful. With 400 problems, many of which guide readers in developing key theoretical concepts themselves, this text can also be adapted to self-study or an inquiry-based approach. Finally, of course, this text can also serve as motivation and preparation for students going on to further study in analysis.

The Infinite Dimensional Topology Of Function Spaces written by J. van Mill and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-05-24 with Mathematics categories.

In this book we study function spaces of low Borel complexity. Techniques from general topology, infinite-dimensional topology, functional analysis and descriptive set theory are primarily used for the study of these spaces. The mix of methods from several disciplines makes the subject particularly interesting. Among other things, a complete and self-contained proof of the Dobrowolski-Marciszewski-Mogilski Theorem that all function spaces of low Borel complexity are topologically homeomorphic, is presented. In order to understand what is going on, a solid background in infinite-dimensional topology is needed. And for that a fair amount of knowledge of dimension theory as well as ANR theory is needed. The necessary material was partially covered in our previous book `Infinite-dimensional topology, prerequisites and introduction'. A selection of what was done there can be found here as well, but completely revised and at many places expanded with recent results. A `scenic' route has been chosen towards the Dobrowolski-Marciszewski-Mogilski Theorem, linking the results needed for its proof to interesting recent research developments in dimension theory and infinite-dimensional topology. The first five chapters of this book are intended as a text for graduate courses in topology. For a course in dimension theory, Chapters 2 and 3 and part of Chapter 1 should be covered. For a course in infinite-dimensional topology, Chapters 1, 4 and 5. In Chapter 6, which deals with function spaces, recent research results are discussed. It could also be used for a graduate course in topology but its flavor is more that of a research monograph than of a textbook; it is therefore more suitable as a text for a research seminar. The book consequently has the character of both textbook and a research monograph. In Chapters 1 through 5, unless stated otherwise, all spaces under discussion are separable and metrizable. In Chapter 6 results for more general classes of spaces are presented. In Appendix A for easy reference and some basic facts that are important in the book have been collected. The book is not intended as a basis for a course in topology; its purpose is to collect knowledge about general topology. The exercises in the book serve three purposes: 1) to test the reader's understanding of the material 2) to supply proofs of statements that are used in the text, but are not proven there 3) to provide additional information not covered by the text. Solutions to selected exercises have been included in Appendix B. These exercises are important or difficult.

Measure Integration And Function Spaces written by Swartz Charles W and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994-02-21 with Mathematics categories.

This text contains a basic introduction to the abstract measure theory and the Lebesgue integral. Most of the standard topics in the measure and integration theory are discussed. In addition, topics on the Hewitt-Yosida decomposition, the Nikodym and Vitali-Hahn-Saks theorems and material on finitely additive set functions not contained in standard texts are explored. There is an introductory section on functional analysis, including the three basic principles, which is used to discuss many of the classic Banach spaces of functions and their duals. There is also a chapter on Hilbert space and the Fourier transform.
