The Research Question of this study is: What is the impact of the NEASC accreditation process on meeting the needs of twenty-first-century students? The research offers unique insights, via a case study, of an Indian International School undergoing joint accreditation (Council of International Schools, New England Association of International School, and International Baccalaureate). As this was a case study, the sample size was 5. The researcher, as the school's Head of Design and Technology, and also a foreigner, remains close to the action of the participants, recording different insights of various stakeholders via anecdotal notes, regarding the effects and effectiveness of the accreditation process at the school. The study's focus is on investigating reflections on participating in an international school's accreditation process. While previous research often concentrated on external stakeholders' perspectives, this study emphasizes the views of internal stakeholders within schools. Unlike studies focusing on enrolment and learning impacts, this research explores the narrative perspective of the benefits of international school accreditation. Existing studies highlighted positive impacts on enrolment and mobility of programs, but the research community lacks an in-depth exploration of the narrative aspects of accreditation benefits. The researcher, being a stakeholder in the accreditation process, provides an internal perspective, addressing this gap in the literature. Although researchers have examined international schools over time, a problem that has yet to be addressed regards the insufficient research detailing the benefits of international school accreditation from a narrative perspective. A gap therefore exists both in terms of lack of literature and the adoption of a narrative methodology to solve the problem. Insights from the examination of studies in the field convey that many researchers opt to adopt an external perspective to examine how accreditation processes impact international schools.

In a sweeping and ambitious book, Paul Gaston deploys his knowledge and experience as a peer reviewer for three regional accrediting agencies, a former board member and chair of the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors, and his involvement in the early stages of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, to go beyond the polemics to explore whether a strategy that builds on the emerging values and good practices can achieve the substantive and positive improvements the public is demanding.As an introduction for readers new to the debate, he provides a brief overview of the development of accreditation, its terminology, and structure, describing how it currently works, and what it has achieved; and offers insight into the proliferation of the missions of accreditation - as well as the multiplicity of stakeholders with an interest in its outcomes - to question whether the mandate of accreditation should, as some contend, be expanded, or particular missions reassigned or abandoned. This established, he undertakes a dispassionate analysis of the arguments and recommendations of critics and supporters of the current direction of accreditation to identify common ground and explore constructive ways forward, paying specific attention to current and potential reforms of the three sectors of higher education accreditation: the seven regional accrediting associations, the national accreditors, and programmatic, or "specialized" accreditation. The book concludes by outlining a comprehensive approach to reform. Attempting fonnally to evaluate something involves the evaluator coming to grips with a number of abstract concepts such as value, merit, worth, growth, criteria, standards, objectives, needs, nonns, client, audience, validity, reliability, objectivity, practical significance, accountability, improvement, process, pro duct, fonnative, summative, costs, impact, infonnation, credibility, and - of course - with the tenn evaluation itself. To communicate with colleagues and clients, evaluators need to clarify what they mean when they use such tenns to denote important concepts central to their work. Moreover, evaluators need to integrate these concepts and their meanings into a coherent framework that guides all aspects of their work. If evaluation is to lay claim to the mantle of a profession, then these conceptualizations of evaluation must lead to the conduct of defensible evaluations. The conceptualization of evaluation can never be a one-time activity nor can any conceptualization be static. Conceptualizations that guide evaluation work must keep pace with the growth of theory and practice in the field. Further, the design and conduct of any particular study involves a good deal of localized conceptualization.
