W. V. Quine was one of the most influential figures of twentieth-century American analytic philosophy. Although he wrote predominantly in English, in Brazil in 1942 he gave a series of lectures on logic and its philosophy in Portuguese, subsequently published as the book O Sentido da Nova Lógica. The book has never before been fully translated into English, and this volume is the first to make its content accessible to Anglophone philosophers. Quine would go on to develop revolutionary ideas about semantic holism and ontology, and this book provides a snapshot of his views on logic and language at a pivotal stage of his intellectual development. The volume also includes an essay on logic which Quine also published in Portuguese, together with an extensive historical-philosophical essay by Frederique Janssen-Lauret. The valuable and previously neglected works first translated in this volume will be essential for scholars of twentieth-century philosophy.

For virtually all of the 20th century, the paradigm in marketing was founded on early economic thoughts, making goods and exchanges the focal point of economic research and practice. In the 1980s and 1990s, scholars called for a paradigm shift, but did not deliver clear directives on how to move forward. It was not before 2004 when Stephen L. Vargo and Robert F. Lusch published their award-winning article Evolving to a New Dominant Logic for Marketing in the Journal of Marketing, dealing with a potentially new paradigm for marketing. The publication has caused a lot of discussions, crowned by a collection of essays from more than 50 scholars in 2006. This book aims at looking into the reactions and discussions regarding the proposed service-dominant logic in more detail. So far, no comprehensive overview of the existing literature has yet been made. This book will introduce the basic ideas of the service-dominant logic, followed by a detailed state-of-literature. The last part of the book will examine whether the concepts of a service-dominant logic display similarities with concepts of B2B marketing and whether they could successfully be adopted in B2B markets.

Excerpt from A New Logic A book on Logic by a practising physician is not calculated to benefit its author, either as a physician or a logician. His professional brethren will look askance upon a physician who wastes, upon such a frivolous subject as Logic, time that might be devoted to increasing his knowledge of disease; and logicians will regard him with the contemptuous abhorrence that is bestowed, all the world over, by the professional upon the amateur. In foro Medicina I have a valid defence, and need not throw myself upon the mercy of the Court. Engaged daily in reasoning on matters of vital, and more than vital importance, I find that valid conclusions can be reached only by strictly departing from the methods of Traditional Logic; and having studied the methods by which I arrive at results that are, upon the whole, successful, I am bound by the salutary rule of my profession, to give to the world the methods by which these results are attained. Candour will not allow me to ascribe the book wholly to compliance with this beneficent rule. Upon reading the works of logicians, and studying what has been said on the subject by them of old time, I am moved by the same spirit that animated long ago that sorry comforter of the man of Uz, when the words of his companions failed them. Great men, I found, are not always wise, nor do men of antiquity always understand judgement. 'Therefore I said hearken to me; I also will show mine opinion; for I am full of matter, and the spirit within me constraineth me. Behold, my belly is as wine that hath no vent: it is ready to burst like new bottles.' An enlarged knowledge of physiology would ascribe the fulness to another anatomical region, but broadly and generally the words express my motive. But I have, in the Court of Medicine, a better defence than this, even. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book provides stimulating insights into the ways in which the adoption of experience logic can revitalize marketing perspectives and stimulate novel approaches to the creation and delivery of value. The first part of the book, which has a theoretical focus, reviews the international literature and offers conceptual observations on the experiential perspective. Suggestions are made on how experience logic can act as a new driver for the management of marketing processes in firms within the context of the experience economy. In the second part of the book, attention turns to the applications of experience logic in different sectors, including tourism, commerce, culture, and trade shows. Company-specific examples of benefits of the experiential approach are also explored in case studies on gift box providers, marketing of traditional local products, and the cosmetics industry. The book will be of particular interest for marketing specialists, but will additionally be of value for managers in private companies and public bodies who wish to enhance their marketing methods.

Dewey S New Logic written by Thomas Burke and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-05-22 with Philosophy categories.

Celebrated for his work in the philosophy of education and acknowledged as a leading proponent of American pragmatism, John Dewey might have had more of a reputation for his philosophy of logic had Bertrand Russell not so fervidly attacked him on the subject. This book analyzes the debate between Russell and Dewey that followed the 1938 publication of Dewey's Logic: The Theory of Inquiry, and argues that, despite Russell's early resistance, Dewey's logic is surprisingly relevant to recent developments in philosophy and cognitive science. Since Dewey's logic focuses on natural language in everyday experience, it poses a challenge to Russell's formal syntactic conception of logic. Tom Burke demonstrates that Russell misunderstood crucial aspects of Dewey's theory - his ideas on propositions, judgments, inquiry, situations, and warranted assertibility - and contends that logic today has progressed beyond Russell and is approaching Dewey's broader perspective. Burke relates Dewey's logic to issues in epistemology, philosophy of language and psychology, computer science, and formal semantics.
