Designed to offer applied mathematicians, physicists, chemists, engineers, geophysicists, and other scientists an elementary level explanation of integral equations of the first kind. It maintains a casual, conversational approach. The book emphasizes understanding, while deliberately avoiding special methods of highly limited application. Special features: all problems illustrate important topics covered in the text; the subject is explained using a fairly non-rigorous approach to introduce any mathematics not commonly understood by the intended audience; designed for self-study, but can also be used as a text.

An Introduction To The Mathematical Theory Of Inverse Problems written by Andreas Kirsch and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-02-15 with Mathematics categories.

This graduate-level textbook introduces the reader to the area of inverse problems, vital to many fields including geophysical exploration, system identification, nondestructive testing, and ultrasonic tomography. It aims to expose the basic notions and difficulties encountered with ill-posed problems, analyzing basic properties of regularization methods for ill-posed problems via several simple analytical and numerical examples. The book also presents three special nonlinear inverse problems in detail: the inverse spectral problem, the inverse problem of electrical impedance tomography (EIT), and the inverse scattering problem. The corresponding direct problems are studied with respect to existence, uniqueness, and continuous dependence on parameters. Ultimately, the text discusses theoretical results as well as numerical procedures for the inverse problems, including many exercises and illustrations to complement coursework in mathematics and engineering. This updated text includes a new chapter on the theory of nonlinear inverse problems in response to the field’s growing popularity, as well as a new section on the interior transmission eigenvalue problem which complements the Sturm-Liouville problem and which has received great attention since the previous edition was published.

Optimization Techniques In Computer Vision written by Mongi A. Abidi and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-12-06 with Computers categories.

This book presents practical optimization techniques used in image processing and computer vision problems. Ill-posed problems are introduced and used as examples to show how each type of problem is related to typical image processing and computer vision problems. Unconstrained optimization gives the best solution based on numerical minimization of a single, scalar-valued objective function or cost function. Unconstrained optimization problems have been intensively studied, and many algorithms and tools have been developed to solve them. Most practical optimization problems, however, arise with a set of constraints. Typical examples of constraints include: (i) pre-specified pixel intensity range, (ii) smoothness or correlation with neighboring information, (iii) existence on a certain contour of lines or curves, and (iv) given statistical or spectral characteristics of the solution. Regularized optimization is a special method used to solve a class of constrained optimization problems. The term regularization refers to the transformation of an objective function with constraints into a different objective function, automatically reflecting constraints in the unconstrained minimization process. Because of its simplicity and efficiency, regularized optimization has many application areas, such as image restoration, image reconstruction, optical flow estimation, etc. Optimization plays a major role in a wide variety of theories for image processing and computer vision. Various optimization techniques are used at different levels for these problems, and this volume summarizes and explains these techniques as applied to image processing and computer vision.

Regularization Of Inverse Problems written by Heinz Werner Engl and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-03-31 with Mathematics categories.

This book is devoted to the mathematical theory of regularization methods and gives an account of the currently available results about regularization methods for linear and nonlinear ill-posed problems. Both continuous and iterative regularization methods are considered in detail with special emphasis on the development of parameter choice and stopping rules which lead to optimal convergence rates.

The Handbook of Mathematical Methods in Imaging provides a comprehensive treatment of the mathematical techniques used in imaging science. The material is grouped into two central themes, namely, Inverse Problems (Algorithmic Reconstruction) and Signal and Image Processing. Each section within the themes covers applications (modeling), mathematics, numerical methods (using a case example) and open questions. Written by experts in the area, the presentation is mathematically rigorous. The entries are cross-referenced for easy navigation through connected topics. Available in both print and electronic forms, the handbook is enhanced by more than 150 illustrations and an extended bibliography. It will benefit students, scientists and researchers in applied mathematics. Engineers and computer scientists working in imaging will also find this handbook useful.
