This book develops a spectral theory for the integrable system of 2-dimensional, simply periodic, complex-valued solutions u of the sinh-Gordon equation. Such solutions (if real-valued) correspond to certain constant mean curvature surfaces in Euclidean 3-space. Spectral data for such solutions are defined (following ideas of Hitchin and Bobenko) and the space of spectral data is described by an asymptotic characterization. Using methods of asymptotic estimates, the inverse problem for the spectral data is solved along a line, i.e. the solution u is reconstructed on a line from the spectral data. Finally, a Jacobi variety and Abel map for the spectral curve are constructed and used to describe the change of the spectral data under translation of the solution u. The book's primary audience will be research mathematicians interested in the theory of infinite-dimensional integrable systems, or in the geometry of constant mean curvature surfaces.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the International Conference on Integrable Systems in memory of J.-L. Verdier. It was held on July 1-5, 1991 at the Centre International de Recherches Mathematiques (C.I.R.M.) at Luminy, near Marseille (France). This collection of articles, covering many aspects of the theory of integrable Hamiltonian systems, both finite and infinite-dimensional, with an emphasis on the algebro-geometric meth ods, is published here as a tribute to Verdier who had planned this confer ence before his death in 1989 and whose active involvement with this topic brought integrable systems to the fore as a subject for active research in France. The death of Verdier and his wife on August 25, 1989, in a car accident near their country house, was a shock to all of us who were acquainted with them, and was very deeply felt in the mathematics community. We knew of no better way to honor Verdier's memory than to proceed with both the School on Integrable Systems at the C.I.M.P.A. (Centre International de Mathematiques Pures et Appliquees in Nice), and the Conference on the same theme that was to follow it, as he himself had planned them.

An Introduction To Partial Differential Equations With Matlab written by Matthew P. Coleman and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-08-01 with Mathematics categories.
The first two editions of An Introduction to Partial Differential Equations with MATLAB® gained popularity among instructors and students at various universities throughout the world. Plain mathematical language is used in a friendly manner to provide a basic introduction to partial differential equations (PDEs). Suitable for a one- or two-semester introduction to PDEs and Fourier series, the book strives to provide physical, mathematical, and historical motivation for each topic. Equations are studied based on method of solution, rather than on type of equation. This third edition of this popular textbook updates the structure of the book by increasing the role of the computational portion, compared to previous editions. The redesigned content will be extremely useful for students of mathematics, physics, and engineering who would like to focus on the practical aspects of the study of PDEs, without sacrificing mathematical rigor. The authors have maintained flexibility in the order of topics. In addition, students will be able to use what they have learned in some later courses (for example, courses in numerical analysis, optimization, and PDE-based programming). Included in this new edition is a substantial amount of material on reviewing computational methods for solving ODEs (symbolically and numerically), visualizing solutions of PDEs, using MATLAB®'s symbolic programming toolbox, and applying various schemes from numerical analysis, along with suggestions for topics of course projects. Students will use sample MATLAB® or Python codes available online for their practical experiments and for completing computational lab assignments and course projects.

In 1979, a historical meeting took place at the Institute for Theoretical Physics in Kiev, USSR, where 48 American Scientists, specialists in nonlinear and turbulent processes, met for two weeks with their soviet counterparts. This meeting pro vided the unique opportunity for USA and USSR participants to directly interact personally and scientifically with each other. This interaction was of great impor not only for the individuals involved but also for the science of nonlinear tance phenomena in general. At the end of the meeting, it was agreed that this exchange should continue, and it was decided to have the next meeting in the USA in 1981. Unfortunately, due to the political situation at that time, the second meeting in the USA never materialized. However, in 1983, the Soviet scientists organized in Kiev a second Workshop. This second meeting was again quite successful. Similar meetings, with growing success were organized at Kiev in 1987, and 1989. It should be noted that 405 participants from 22 countries participated at the fourth Kiev workshop on Nonlinear and Turbulent Processes. The Chainnan of this workshop was V. Zakharov, who has also been a co-chainnan of all the previous workshops.

Classical Solutions In Quantum Field Theory written by Erick J. Weinberg and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-08-16 with Science categories.
Classical solutions play an important role in quantum field theory, high-energy physics and cosmology. Real-time soliton solutions give rise to particles, such as magnetic monopoles, and extended structures, such as domain walls and cosmic strings, that have implications for early universe cosmology. Imaginary-time Euclidean instantons are responsible for important nonperturbative effects, while Euclidean bounce solutions govern transitions between metastable states. Written for advanced graduate students and researchers in elementary particle physics, cosmology and related fields, this book brings the reader up to the level of current research in the field. The first half of the book discusses the most important classes of solitons: kinks, vortices and magnetic monopoles. The cosmological and observational constraints on these are covered, as are more formal aspects, including BPS solitons and their connection with supersymmetry. The second half is devoted to Euclidean solutions, with particular emphasis on Yang–Mills instantons and on bounce solutions.
