Today's professionals, especially women, are caught in a time paradox: can they build a career and a family at the same time? The Part-time Paradox explores the conflict and tension between the time demands of career and family life, and the choice of part-time work as a solution. The changing demographics of the family and the work place make it increasingly difficult for both men and women to meet the escalating time pressures facing a doctor, lawyer or manager. This book examines the social problems associated with demanding work schedules and choices, and also illustrates successful alternatives to full-time employment. It draws on interviews with attorneys in large law firms, in-house corporate counsels, and government service in order to explore the multiple dimensions of the part-time work solution. Although attitudes are beginning to change, one of the greatest impediments to part-time work is the stigma attached to it in many organizations, and the consequences for the careers of individuals who take it. Professionals define themselves, in part, by their commitment to overtime. The authors reveal how cultural perspectives of the true professional, part-time work, and stereotypes about gender roles can influence both an individual's decision making process and office policy. They show that in an environment where professionals perceive part-time work as deviant, it may require not just perserverance, but also a trade-off between time flexibility and professional status. The authors consider issues ranging from job security and the consequences of new technology, to the economics of part-time work and the division of labor in the family. The Part-time Paradox provides a timely overview of a growing crisis, as part-time and flex-time work arrangements increase.

Marooned in the present, their only hope for the future lay in the past. But first there was still the small matter of staying alive. The planet they were marooned on was crawling with bird-beasts, immense parrotlike carnivores that stood two meters tall, weighed upwards of fifty klogs, and had a giant scooped beak like a pelican. They normally swallowed their prey whole, though not before crushing them to death in their vise-like jaws. Then there were the vipers - writhing snake-like creatures armed with dozens of sucker-bearing tentacles. They sprayed their victims with acid, then ate them while they were still alive. But it got worse. Much worse . . . Now, join Andu Nehrengel and his female clone companions on an intense voyage through time. First stop: the Civil War and the Battle of Shiloh, April 1862, one of the most horrendous land battles of all time. Meet Mark Twain when he is still a riverboat pilot. Journey with him north to Missouri when he joins the Confederacy. Then it's back to the future and on to Mars! And when you're done reading this adventure, check out these other fine books by author Steven Burgauer: The Night of the Eleventh Sun, The Road To War: Duty & Drill, Courage & Capture, and his newest historical fiction piece, Nazi Saboteurs on the Bayou, with a short video trailer https: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQs2pwr89RI

Exploring the Unseen Possibilities of Time" is a thought-provoking book that takes readers on a journey to uncover the vast, often-overlooked potential of time. Drawing from a wide range of disciplines including physics, psychology, philosophy, and history, this book challenges readers to reconsider their understanding of time and the role it plays in shaping our lives. The book begins by introducing the concept of time and its historical and cultural significance. It explores the ways in which time has been perceived and measured throughout history, from the ancient Greeks to the modern era. The book then delves into the scientific understanding of time, including the theory of relativity and its implications for time dilation and the study of cosmology and the origins of the universe. In addition to scientific perspectives, the book also examines the cultural and social impacts of time, including the subjective nature of time perception and how it shapes our memories, emotions, and identity. The book also explores the concept of time travel, both in popular culture and in scientific research, and the potential implications and consequences of altering the timeline of events. Throughout the book, the author invites readers to consider the possibilities for new ways of measuring and experiencing time in the future, including the ethical and societal implications of these changes. The book also explores the relationship between time and a changing world, examining the ways in which social, cultural, technological, and environmental changes are impacting our perception of time. Overall, "Exploring the Unseen Possibilities of Time" offers readers a fresh perspective on the concept of time and the potential for new discoveries and innovations in this field.
