There are various arguments for the metaphysical impossibility of time travel. Is it impossible because objects could then be in two places at once? Or is it impossible because some objects could bring about their own existence? In this book, Nikk Effingham contends that no such argument is sound and that time travel is metaphysically possible. His main focus is on the Grandfather Paradox: the position that time travel is impossible because someone could not go back in time and kill their own grandfather before he met their grandmother. In such a case, Effingham argues that the time traveller would have the ability to do the impossible (so they could kill their grandfather) even though those impossibilities will never come about (so they won't kill their grandfather). He then explores the ramifications of this view, discussing issues in probability and decision theory. The book ends by laying out the dangers of time travel and why, even though no time machines currently exist, we should pay extra special care ensuring that nothing, no matter how small or microscopic, ever travels in time.

Exploring the Unseen Possibilities of Time" is a thought-provoking book that takes readers on a journey to uncover the vast, often-overlooked potential of time. Drawing from a wide range of disciplines including physics, psychology, philosophy, and history, this book challenges readers to reconsider their understanding of time and the role it plays in shaping our lives. The book begins by introducing the concept of time and its historical and cultural significance. It explores the ways in which time has been perceived and measured throughout history, from the ancient Greeks to the modern era. The book then delves into the scientific understanding of time, including the theory of relativity and its implications for time dilation and the study of cosmology and the origins of the universe. In addition to scientific perspectives, the book also examines the cultural and social impacts of time, including the subjective nature of time perception and how it shapes our memories, emotions, and identity. The book also explores the concept of time travel, both in popular culture and in scientific research, and the potential implications and consequences of altering the timeline of events. Throughout the book, the author invites readers to consider the possibilities for new ways of measuring and experiencing time in the future, including the ethical and societal implications of these changes. The book also explores the relationship between time and a changing world, examining the ways in which social, cultural, technological, and environmental changes are impacting our perception of time. Overall, "Exploring the Unseen Possibilities of Time" offers readers a fresh perspective on the concept of time and the potential for new discoveries and innovations in this field. It is a must-read for anyone interested in exploring the unseen possibilities of time and the ways in which it shapes our lives and the world around us.

Every significant choice, every important decision we make, is determined by our perception of time. This is the most influential force in our lives, yet we are virtually unaware of it. In this fascinating book, the award-winning past president of the American Psychological Association, Philip Zimbardo, and his co-author, John Boyd, show how: - the way you perceive time is as unique as your fingerprints - these individual time perspectives shape your life, and the world around you - you can change the way you perceive time, so you get the most out of every minute - if you don't, the power of time in the modern world is so immense that it will take its toll on you The Time Paradox is a highly readable, stimulating look at a subject that absorbs us all.

About the possibility of time traveling based on several specialized works, including those of Nicholas J. J. Smith ("Time Travel"), William Grey ("Troubles with Time Travel"), Ulrich Meyer ("Explaining causal loops"), Simon Keller and Michael Nelson ("Presentists should believe in time-travel"), Frank Arntzenius and Tim Maudlin ("Time Travel and Modern Physics"), and David Lewis ("The Paradoxes of Time Travel"). The article begins with an Introduction in which I make a short presentation of the time travel, and continues with a History of the concept of time travel, main physical aspects of time travel, including backward time travel in the past in general relativity and quantum physics, and time travel in the future, then a presentation of the Grandfather paradox that is approached in almost all specialized works, followed by a section dedicated to the Philosophy of time travel, and a section in which I analyze Causal loops for time travel. I finish my work with Conclusions, in which I sustain my personal opinions on the time travel, and the Bibliography on which the work is based. Keywords: time travel, grandfather paradox, causal loops, temporal paradoxes, causalityCONTENTSAbstractIntroductionHistory of the concept of time travelGrandfather paradoxThe philosophy of time travelCausal loopsConclusionsBibliographyNotesDOI: 10.13140/RG.2.2.17802.31680
