Using Space Critical Geographies Of Drugs And Alcohol written by Christopher M. Moreno and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-03-05 with Medical categories.
The consumption of drugs and alcohol, and the pleasures and problems arising from this consumption, can be understood as embedded and constitutive elements of social, family, and recreational life. At the same time, they are key sites of intervention for a broad array of state and non-state actors focused on regulation, treatment, and recovery. This edited volume showcases current research on the complex social and cultural geographies of drugs and alcohol. Taking an avowedly critical approach, the authors draw from a variety of theoretical traditions to explore the socially and spatially embedded nature of alcohol and drug consumption, regulation and treatment, and the ways in which these give rise to particular lived experiences, while foreclosing on others. Together, the chapters question taken-for-granted assumptions about the nature of, and motivations for, drug and alcohol use, and pay direct attention to both the intended and unintended consequences of regulation and treatment initiatives. Despite and, in part, because of this critical stance, chapters hold immediate implications for drug and alcohol policy and public health interventions. This book was originally published as a special issue of Social and Cultural Geography.

Location Awareness In The Age Of Google Maps written by Rebecca Noone and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-07-12 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.
Location Awareness in the Age of Google Maps explores the mundane act of navigating cities in the age of digital mapping infrastructures. Noone follows the frictions routing through Google Maps’ categorising and classifying of spatial information. Complicating the assumption that digital maps distort a sense of direction, Noone argues that Google Maps’ location awareness does more than just organise and orient a representation of space—it also organises and orients imaginaries of publicness, selfsufficiency, legibility, and error. At the same time, Location Awareness in the Age of Google Maps helps to animate the ordinary ways people are challenging and refusing Google Maps’ vision of the world. Drawing on an arts-based field study spanning the streets of London, New York, London, Toronto, and Amsterdam, Noone’s encounters of "asking for directions" open up lines of inquiry and spatial scores that cut through Google‘s universal mapping project. Location Awareness in the Age of Google Maps will be essential reading for information studies and media studies scholars and students with an interest in embodied information practices, critical information studies, and critical data studies. The book will also appeal to an urban studies audience engaged in work on the digital city and the datafication of urban environments.

This book analyses the key livelihood and governance challenges that the urban poor experience while navigating public spaces in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Using data collected through extensive fieldwork in Bangladesh, the book contributes to the emerging scholarship of resilient cities, gendered space, spatial justice, and poverty in cities of the Global South. The book assesses the everyday politics of survival for the urban poor; how the poor negotiate different levels of formal and informal modes of power and governance; and the dynamics of gender. It explores how tenuous counter-spaces are created when these factors combine to provide a valuable framework for work in other urban contexts in the Global South beyond Bangladesh. Using cross-disciplinary perspectives, this book investigates the issues of human development, urban governance, urban planning and the gendered nature of urban space to outline how these issues enable or constrain poor people’s livelihood practices and their rights to be in the city. Exploring debates surrounding placemaking and inclusive cities and their connection to poor people’s livelihoods, this book will be of interest to scholars in the field of Sociology, Development Studies, Planning, Geography and Anthropology.

Food Leadership written by Catherine Etmanski and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-06-09 with Education categories.
So much more than a human necessity, food is an entry point into a range of different topics: culture and tradition, health and well-being, small and large-scale business, ecology and politics, science and the arts, poverty and social justice, land use and civil society, global trade, Traditional Ecological Knowledge, and more. From seed to table, the policies and practices related to all aspects of the food cycle create rich sites for learning and multiple opportunities for leadership. Although the topic of food has been gaining momentum in the field of Adult Education over the past decade, food has been relatively underexplored in the field of Leadership Studies. The purpose of this book, therefore, is to deepen our understanding and knowledge about leadership and adult learning in food-related movements worldwide. With contributing authors representing four countries and various Indigenous groups, this book examines the diverse ways in which food activists, scholars, students, and practitioners are already demonstrating, debating, and documenting leadership and learning in the context of global food systems transformation. Furthermore, it documents how these actions are supporting the innovation needed to address the increasingly complex and interconnected socio-economic and environmental challenges associated with food and agriculture. Whereas much leadership theory continues to be developed from cases in business, social movements, or other, more traditional leadership sectors, this book invites leaders and educators to look to their plates and, by extension, to local, small-scale farmers and to nature itself as sources of inspiration in their work.

Rethinking School Spaces For Transgender Non Binary And Gender Diverse Youth written by Jennifer Ingrey and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-06-21 with Education categories.
Positing the washroom as an onto-epistemological site which exemplifies the way in which school spaces govern how gender is experienced, normalized, and understood by youth, this text illustrates how current school policies and practices around bathrooms fail to dismantle cisnormativity and recognize trans lives. Drawing on media-policy analysis, empirical study, and arts-based methodologies, it demonstrates how school spaces must be re-thought via a trans-centred epistemology, to be reflected in teacher education, policy, and curricula. Beginning with a review of the theoretical constellation of the heterotopia and critical trans-ing informing the analysis of data, it moves to offer a critical media and policy analysis of how trans and gender-diverse students are de-limited, erased, or harmed. This position is supported by analysis of empirical data from a school bathroom project, including student photographs of washrooms, and other visual expressions of gender-diverse and gender-complex individuals. These elements—the media-policy analysis, the empirical study, and the archival online material—ultimately combine to offer new justifications for critical trans-informed policies and practices in education that recognize and centre trans and gender-diverse knowledges, expressions, and experiences. Centring the specific and nuanced debates around trans phenomena via an innovative methodology, it makes a unique and extremely timely contribution to the debate on gender-inclusive bathrooms, as well as trans rights to self-identification. As such, it will appeal to scholars, postgraduates, educators, and faculty working in the area of gender and sexuality in education, with interests in trans phenomena.

""SpaceX Rocket Reusability"" explores the groundbreaking advancements in reusable rocket technology pioneered by SpaceX, examining how it's transforming space travel from an expensive, one-time event to a more routine and affordable endeavor. The book delves into the engineering behind making rockets recoverable, similar to airplanes, and analyzes the potential impact on space exploration and commercial ventures. Historically, each space launch required a brand-new rocket. SpaceX's innovations, such as controlled descent and rapid refurbishment processes, are challenging this paradigm, potentially unlocking unprecedented opportunities beyond Earth. The book begins with the fundamentals of rocket science and the challenges of reusability, progressing through the historical context and innovations that led to SpaceX's breakthroughs. It details the specific engineering solutions employed and analyzes the impact of reusable rocket technology on satellite deployment, space tourism, and deep-space exploration. Using publicly available data and technical specifications, the book offers a data-driven perspective on SpaceX's accomplishments, avoiding unsubstantiated claims. The analysis includes factors such as the cost-effectiveness of reusable rockets and the environmental impact of frequent launches.
