In this book, my unedited autobiography, I explain how, with my pronounced limited academic ability, I managed to utilize both positive and detrimental factors from my early childhood to my advantage in order to accomplish my ultimate success in life. I discuss the many hardships and hurdles I encountered during my seemingly-impossible educational path. My eventual goal was also undoubtedly attributed to my life-long ability of being able to over-achieve and out-perform. Simply put, I had to be subjected to many needless but necessary stressful situations along with a combination of other factors in order to obtain what seemed to be an un-attainable goal. Along with these factors and endless battles with Bipolar Illness, I managed to convert these deterrents into an incredibly advantageous situation. Even one of my decisions to quit medical school turned out to be a very important impetus in my eventual success. In the second section of this book, I explain the many functions, procedures, and powers of the Coroner's Office, and detail the position of coroner that I held for fourteen years. The purpose of this was to set the stage for my being able to describe and report in depth the many unusual and bizarre cases that I encountered during this time. When things appear to be coming at you from all directions and your outlook appears quite gloomy and hopeless, don't even think about giving up. No matter how many destitute situations you find yourself in along the way, stay persistent and keep trying, because the eventual outcome may not be as predictable as everyone would like to think. This is an autobiography of a rural physician and coroner of a mid-sized Louisiana Parish who was able to accomplish one of the highest-possible goals in spite of his self-admitted limited academic ability. Having been the oldest of nine siblings, six of whom also became doctors, he explains as to how he was forced to encounter numerous hardships and ever-present challenges in order to be able to conquer a goal that seemed virtually impossible. Dr. Cefalu tells of how he managed to utilize both positive and detrimental factors from his early childhood to his advantage in order to accomplish his ultimate success in life. Along with these factors, many other constant struggles and endless battles with Bipolar Illness, he somehow managed to convert these deterrents into an incredibly advantageous situation whereby his ability to over-achieve and out-perform would make up the difference. Even one of his decisions to quit medical school turned out to be a very important impetus in his eventual success. In the second section of this book, he explains the many functions, procedures, and powers of the Coroner's Office, and details the position of coroner that he held for fourteen years. The purpose of this was to set the stage for his being able to describe and report in depth the many unusual and bizarre cases that he encountered during this time.

The Englishwoman’s Review, which published from 1866 to 1910, participated in and recorded a great change in the range of possibilities open to women. The ideal of the magazine was the idea of the emerging emancipated middle-class woman: economic independence from men, choice of occupation, participation in the male enterprises of commerce and government, access to higher education, admittance to the male professions, particularly medicine, and, of course, the power of suffrage equal to that of men. First published in 1985, this eighth volume contains issues from 1875. With an informative introduction by Janet Horowitz Murray and Myra Stark, and an index compiled by Anna Clark, this set is an invaluable resource to those studying nineteenth and early twentieth-century feminism and the women’s movement in Britain.

Wall Street Journal Best Selling Book Two decades of negotiating African oil and gas deals have given NJ Ayuk a grasp of the continent's energy landscape that few can match. The American-educated, African energy lawyer serves up generous doses of that insight in his second book, Billions at Play: The Future of Africa Energy and Doing Deals. Serving as a road map for the continent to do a better job of using its vast energy resources to improve its peoples' lives, Ayuk addresses how African countries can use their energy industries as springboards for diversifying and growing their overall economies. In addition, Ayuk shows how African governments and local companies can negotiate better deals with international energy companies and how the continent's countries can use marginal oil and gas fields to develop domestic energy industries that, once strong, will compete globally. Questions posed and answered: Why Africa's fledgling natural gas resources can allow the continent to emerge as a key global player in the industry What changes African countries can make in order to become attractive investment destinations The role that access to reliable, sustainable, and affordable power can play in the acceleration of economic growth Why and how American energy companies should stop curtailing their investments in Africa And why the continent’s energy industry needs more women The book’s underlying theme is that too often, natural resources create wealth for foreign investors and a select group of African elites while everyday people (and in turn, African economies) fail to benefit. While it is easy to see that there is a lack of local participation in African projects and an ongoing challenge in securing necessary investment, we also need to understand our role in this. We have to understand the importance of creating enabling environments with attractive fiscal terms for local and foreign investors, the role of stronger local content policies in ensuring more local participation in the sector, and the weight government and political uncertainty carries in moving projects forward. “It’s up to Africans to fix Africa,” writes Ayuk. This statement can be considered a living theme throughout the book as he encourages that local companies and governments have to enter into collaborative agreements rather than passive engagements with IOCs and majors. “[We need] investors who show that they want to fully participate with us, by coming in and building long-term sustainable businesses that last and make a profit, create jobs and further development.” If you’re ready to dive headfirst into accessing a frank analysis and examination of the African energy landscape and how Africans can begin to fix Africa, jump into the pages of Billions at Play. “I agree with the points made—and with Ayuk’s case for the critical role that OPEC will play in helping African oil products achieve a much-deserved voice in the petroleum industry.” —OPEC Secretary-General, H.E. Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo

On Wellington written by Carl von Clausewitz and has been published by University of Oklahoma Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-10-11 with History categories.

The Battle of Waterloo has been studied and dissected so extensively that one might assume little more on the subject could be discovered. Now historian Peter Hofschröer brings forward a long-repressed commentary written by Carl von Clausewitz, the author of On War. Clausewitz, the Western world’s most renowned military theorist, participated in the Waterloo campaign as a senior staff officer in the Prussian army. His appraisal, offered here in an up-to-date and readable translation, criticized the Duke of Wellington’s actions. Lord Liverpool sent his translation of the manuscript to Wellington, who pronounced it a “lying work.” The translated commentary was quickly buried in Wellington’s private papers, where it languished for a century and a half. Now published for the first time in English, Hofschröer brings Clausewitz’s critique back into view with thorough annotation and contextual explanation. Peter Hofschröer, long recognized as a leading scholar of the Napoleonic Wars, shows how the Duke prevented the account’s publication during his lifetime—a manipulation of history so successful that almost two centuries passed before Clausewitz’s work reemerged, finally permitting a reappraisal of key events in the campaign. In addition to translating and annotating Clausewitz’s critique, Hofschröer also includes an order of battle and an extensive bibliography.
