This book is another high-calibre volume in IMAGES’ acclaimed Master Architect Series of monographs. The Architecture of Adrian Smith, SOM: Toward a Sustainable Future showcases a body of work that has made a significant contribution to contemporary world architecture. Adrian Smith has brought design solutions with enduring value to the entire planet. He’s designed buildings in China, England, Germany, Brazil, Kuwait, Canada, Korea, Guatemala, Bahrain, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Dubai and the United States. His expertise covers areas as broad as operations, marketing, finance, and professional services. He is truly one of the few architectural polymaths, a person who has a great diversity of skills and immense intellect. Smith is perhaps most recognized for designing exceptionally aesthetic and functional tall buildings. He understands scale, community, and context as few others do. He is passionate about (and celebrates) well- designed buildings of all shapes and sizes, and has earned accolades for designing the tallest building in the world. Some of Smith’s most renowned works include Banco De Occidente, United Gulf Bank, Rowes Wharf, 10 Ludgate, Jin Mao Tower, Burj Dubai, and Pearl River. When it comes to important buildings, Adrian Smith and SOM have provided us a beacon by which to steer. In these richly illustrated pages, Adrian Smith illuminates, showing us how to engage, energize, and inspire students, architects, and clients to do and to be their very best.

Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture's Performance + Assembly: The Experience of Space covers a range of performance and assembly spaces designed by AS+GG from central spaces in the world's largest expositions to small, flexible, high-technology theaters to expressive and functional auditoriums. The book of global cultural work includes building designs from Chicago to Istanbul, Astana to Dubai and features both photography of built spaces and unbuilt ideas. In this book Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture reviews projects to answer questions that relate to how buildings can be used to enhance the experiences of the users beyond set programmatic requirements by asking questions like: How can architecture and design help advance the technologies, the operations, the program, and the way buildings perform? At a more sensorial and experiential level, the book explores how architecture can speak to the soul to create a place in between the art and the audience.

The Skycourt And Skygarden written by Jason Pomeroy and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-20 with Architecture categories.

Population increases, advances in technology and the continued trend towards inner-city migration have transformed the traditional city of spaces into the modern city of objects. This has necessitated alternative spatial and technological solutions to replenish those environments that were once so intrinsic to society’s day-to-day interactions and communal activities. This book considers skycourts and skygardens as ‘alternative social spaces’ that form part of a broader multi-level urban infrastructure – seeking to make good the loss of open space within the built environment. Jason Pomeroy begins the discussion with the decline of the public realm, and how the semi-public realm has been incorporated into a spatial hierarchy that supports the primary figurative spaces on the ground or, in their absence, creates them in the sky. He then considers skycourts and skygardens in terms of the social, cultural, economic, environmental, technological and spatial benefits that they provide to the urban habitat. Pomeroy concludes by advocating a new hybrid that can harness the social characteristics of the public domain, but be placed within buildings as an alternative communal space for the 21st century. Using graphics and full colour images throughout, the author explores 40 current and forthcoming skycourt and skygarden projects from around the world, including the Shard (London), Marina Bay Sands (Singapore), the Shanghai Tower (China) and the Lotte Tower (South Korea).
