Presents a comprehensive and interdisciplinary review of the majorcutting-edge technology research areas—especially those onnew materials and methods as well as advanced structures andproperties—for various sensor and detection devices The development of sensors and detectors at macroscopic ornanometric scale is the driving force stimulating research insensing materials and technology for accurate detection in solid, liquid, or gas phases; contact or non-contact configurations; ormultiple sensing. The emphasis on reduced-scale detectiontechniques requires the use of new materials and methods. Thesetechniques offer appealing perspectives given by spin crossoverorganic, inorganic, and composite materials that could be uniquefor sensor fabrication. The influence of the length, composition, and conformation structure of materials on their properties, andthe possibility of adjusting sensing properties by doping or addingthe side-groups, are indicative of the starting point ofmultifarious sensing. The role of intermolecular interactions, polymer and ordered phase formation, as well as behavior underpressure and magnetic and electric fields are also important factsfor processing ultra-sensing materials. The 15 chapters written by senior researchers in AdvancedSensor and Detection Materials cover all these subjects and keyfeatures under three foci: 1) principals and perspectives, 2) newmaterials and methods, and 3) advanced structures and propertiesfor various sensor devices.

Optical Fiber Sensor Technology written by L.S. Grattan and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03-14 with Science categories.

Optical Fiber Sensor Technology, Advanced Applications - Bragg Gratings and Distributed Sensors, builds upon the foundations of the subject in the preceding four volumes of this series, concentrating as they do upon both applications and the technology of advanced optical fiber sensors. Previous volumes have covered the fundamentals of the field, devices and systems and chemical and environmental monitoring. This volume deals with a range of highly topical sensor devices and commercial systems, with considerable emphasis upon one of the most important areas, Bragg gratings in fibers, their fabrication and applications in advanced sensor systems and the principles and use of distributed fiber optic sensors. The volume is well illustrated and referenced, pointing to hundreds of key publications accessible in the open literature. It draws upon a group of authors with an international reputation for their work in the area, carefully edited into a coherent and logical text by the editors, based on their considerable experience in the field. This book series will provide an invaluable source for researchers, engineers and advanced students in the field of optical fibers, optoelectronics and measurement and sensing.

The Advanced Sensor Concepts project was conducted under the Center Director's Discretionary Fund at the Marshall Space Flight Center. Its objective was to advance the technology originally developed for the Glovebox Integrated Microgravity Isolation Technology project. The objective of this effort was to develop and test several new motion sensors. To date, the investigators have invented seven new technologies during this endeavor and have conceived several others. The innovative basic sensor technology is an absolute position sensor. It employs only two active components, and it is simple, inexpensive, reliable, repeatable, lightweight, and relatively unobtrusive. Two sensors can be utilized in the same physical space to achieve redundancy. The sensor has micrometer positional accuracy and can be configured as a two- or three-dimensional sensor. The sensor technology has the potential to pioneer a new class of linear and rotary sensors. This sensor is the enabling technology for autonomous assembly of modular structures in space and on extraterrestrial locations. Alhorn, D. C. and Howard, D. E. and Smith, D. A.
