Non-coding RNA in Plants: Modulation and Stress Responses is the first book to present the basics of the importance of long non-coding RNA and its potential in addressing abiotic and biotic stresses. Describing the MiRNA and small RNA and their role in plant development, this book explains the importance of long non-coding RNA in plants, including its significance in virus resistance, its transposable elements, effector trigger immunity, and fungal and bacterial resistance in plants. Non-coding RNA for Modulation and Stress Response in Plants presents the state-of-the-science from its historical foundation through application throughout the lifecycle and production of agricultural and non-agricultural plants. While various coding has been explored within animal science, plant exposition has been minimal. This book is designed to inspire additional research and developments toward improved plant resiliency and production. - Presents foundational information for understanding the importance of long non-coding RNA in plants - Summarizes and illustrates identification and diversity analysis approaches toward Non-coding RNA as regulations - Explores how non-coding RNAs may play a role in the regulation of stress responses by highlighting their biogenesis and mechanisms of action

High-throughput technologies are those that allow the generation of large-scale data related to omic analysis (such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, phenomics, and metabolomics). Currently, the development and use of these technologies has gone hand-in-hand with the development of bioinformatics tools, which have allowed the integration of omics-based data to understand crucial knowledge about the molecular systems that underlie the various functions of the plants. In recent years, there has been a huge development in the field of high-throughput biology, which is attributed to an era of tech startups. Genomics studies in plants, for instance, have benefited from advances in high-throughput technologies, such as high-throughput genotyping, which have allowed us to investigate the regulation and function of thousands of genes and genomic regions involved in a novel adaptation. In fact, with current high-throughput technologies, it is possible to recover substantial portions of the plant diversity, which is a key input for genetic improvement programs, food security and conservation programs. The integration of multilevel biological data, involving investigations at the molecular level (in genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, among others), have allowed more comprehensive studies, which broadens the opportunities to clarify key molecular aspects involved in the physiological responses to abiotic stresses.

Soil salinity is a key abiotic-stress and poses serious threats to crop yields and quality of produce. Owing to the underlying complexity, conventional breeding programs have met with limited success. Even genetic engineering approaches, via transferring/overexpressing a single ‘direct action gene’ per event did not yield optimal results. Nevertheless, the biotechnological advents in last decade coupled with the availability of genomic sequences of major crops and model plants have opened new vistas for understanding salinity-responses and improving salinity tolerance in important glycophytic crops. Our goal is to summarize these findings for those who wish to understand and target the molecular mechanisms for producing salt-tolerant and high-yielding crops. Through this 2-volume book series, we critically assess the potential venues for imparting salt stress tolerance to major crops in the post-genomic era. Accordingly, perspectives on improving crop salinity tolerance by targeting the sensory, ion-transport and signaling mechanisms were presented in Volume 1. Volume 2 now focuses on the potency of post-genomic era tools that include RNAi, genomic intervention, genome editing and systems biology approaches for producing salt tolerant crops.

New and Future Developments in Microbial Biotechnology and Bioengineering: Sustainable Agriculture: Advances in Microbe-Based Biostimulants describes advances in microbial mechanisms involved in crop production and stress alleviation. Recent developments in our understanding of the role of microbes in sustainable agriculture and disease management have created a highly potential research area. The plant holobiont has a significant role in stress signaling, nutrient use efficiency, and soil health and fertility for sustainable developments. The mycorrhizosphere, hyphosphere, phyllosphere, rhizosphere and endosphere are critical interfaces for the exchange of signaling and resources between plants and soil environment. This book is an ideal reference source for microbiologists, agrochemists, biotechnologists, biochemists, industrialists, researchers and scientists working on agriculturally important microorganisms and their exploitation in sustainable future applications. - Gives insights into mechanisms of plant-microbe interaction - Introduces new aspects and advances in plant-microbe interaction for disease management - Includes descriptions and modern practices on how to harness the potential of microbes in sustainable agriculture applications
