Groundwater management and conservation becomes a more and more important issue in the heavily urbanized coastal zones of the Asia-Pacific region. This volume presents a comprehensive overview of the status of coastal groundwater research in this diverse region. It includes latest methodologies and technologies to assess processes associated with coastal groundwater development. Case studies and local examples from a broad geographical range of continental shoreline and island settings give an understanding of the diversity of coastal aquifers and the groundwater recourses they harbour. Audience: By providing a clearer understanding of the hydrogeological and hydrochemical processes, this volume offers a critical tool to coastal researchers, geoscientists in related fields, water engineers, groundwater managers and decision makers as it illustrates the human and environmental impacts on coastal groundwater resources and the relationship to coastal zone management strategies and the development of sustainable management approaches.

Entropy And Energy Dissipation In Water Resources written by V.P. Singh and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Science categories.
Since the landmark contributions of C. E. Shannon in 1948, and those of E. T. Jaynes about a decade later, applications of the concept of entropy and the principle of maximum entropy have proliterated in science and engineering. Recent years have witnessed a broad range of new and exciting developments in hydrology and water resources using the entropy concept. These have encompassed innovative methods for hydrologic network design, transfer of information, flow forecasting, reliability assessment for water distribution systems, parameter estimation, derivation of probability distributions, drainage-network analysis, sediment yield modeling and pollutant loading, bridge-scour analysis, construction of velocity profiles, comparative evaluation of hydrologic models, and so on. Some of these methods hold great promise for advancement of engineering practice, permitting rational alternatives to conventional approaches. On the other hand, the concepts of energy and energy dissipation are being increasingly applied to a wide spectrum of problems in environmental and water resources. Both entropy and energy dissipation have their origin in thermodynamics, and are related concepts. Yet, many of the developments using entropy seem to be based entirely on statistical interpretation and have seemingly little physical content. For example, most of the entropy-related developments and applications in water resources have been based on the information-theoretic interpretation of entropy. We believe if the power of the entropy concept is to be fully realized, then its physical basis has to be established.

Near Boundary Fluid Mechanics written by Shu-Qing Yang and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-03-07 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Near-Boundary Fluid Mechanics focuses on the near-boundary region and its significance. It delves into topics like boundary shear stress, drag reduction using polymer additives, turbulence sources, secondary currents, log-law validity, sediment transport, and more. Unlike similar books, it emphasizes the importance of the near-boundary region. This book is organized into chapters covering internal flows, external flows, loose boundary flows, and density currents. It extends Prandtl's fundamental concept to internal flows, showing how potential flow theory can describe flow without a solid boundary. In addition, the book provides a theoretical analysis of boundary shear stress in three-dimensional flows and explores the turbulent structures in drag-reduction flows. A key feature is clarifying the role of wall-normal velocity in mass, moment, and energy transfer. Additionally, Archimedes' principle is covered to explain pressure drag and establishes a relationship between wake volume and hydrodynamic force. - Presents a specific focus on the near-boundary region and its significance - Explores historically pivotal challenges within fluid mechanics and their impacts - Offers a straightforward, yet effective solution to numerous enduring questions in the field - Introduces fluid acceleration and clearly distinguishes its effects

Water Projects And Technologies In Asia written by Hyoseop Woo and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-04-28 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This book is a collection of highly refined articles on historical water projects and traditional water technologies of international interest in the Asian region, addressing information on past water projects (mostly before the 20th century) in the Asian regions that are technically and culturally of interest and educationally valuable. This book explores historical water projects in these regions, presenting technologies used at the time, including calculation and forecasting methods, measurement, material, labor, methodologies, and even water culture. It is expected that the old Asian wisdom of "reviewing the old and learning the new" would be realized to a certain extent in modern planning and practice of water projects. This book will enable the reader to understand historical water projects and technologies in the Asian region. It can be used as a one-stop resource to source notable Asian water projects and their relevance to modern-day technology. In this regard, this book is expected to be of interest to a variety of audiences, including the corresponding Asian regions and other international audiences interested in Asian water history from an engineering perspective.
