Love As Medicine written by Theadora Peterson and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Antisocial personality disorders categories.

Through hermeneutic literature review and data analysis, Theadora Peterson (2010) hypothesizes that empathic deficits are at the root of antisocial behavior in children. Peterson seeks to determine if, and how, such empathic deficits can be remedied through an exploration of literature and data. She examines the failure of the current system of residential care in the treatment of children ages eight to eighteen with severe behavioral issues. The author asserts that modern, campus-based, residential treatment not only does little to address empathic deficits in children with conduct disorder, but has the potential to worsen them. In response to this deficit in care, Peterson proposes a family-based, holistic model of residential treatment that seeks to provide more successful and lasting care for children with antisocial behavior by addressing all aspects of the clients' lives, combining both scientific and in-depth interventions to target empathic deficits at both a brain and soul level. In her proposal, Peterson includes social, emotional, cognitive, affective, behavioral, neurological, developmental, physical, and soul issues in the development of empathy, and includes treatments for each aspect.

In this book, psychologists explore the range of emotions children feel during moral transgressions, how and why acts of victimization become emotionally charged, what the emotions can tell researchers about people who become routine victimizers and those who learn to inhibit victimizing behaviors, and whether victimization is primarily affective, or cognitive abilities also play a major role. They cover theoretical foundations; factors from neuroscience to culture that influence aggression and morality; and assessment, interventions, and clinical perspectives. Among specific topics are emotion in early conscience, callous-unemotional traits and aggression in youth, and a cognitive-emotional model for the etiology of youth violence.

An award-winning psychologist draws on years of research to unveil “a simple but persuasive hypothesis for a new way to think about evil.” ―New York Times How can we explain both cruelty and kindness? To award-winning psychologist Simon Baron-Cohen, the explanation for cruelty is low levels of empathy, and the explanation for kindness is high levels of empathy. In The Science of Evil, Baron-Cohen draws on decades of research to develop a new, brain-based theory of human cruelty and kindness. He explores the social and biological factors that can influence our empathy levels, explains the key distinction between cognitive and affective forms of empathy, and shows how low empathy can lead to dehumanizing behavior. Featuring a new introduction by the author, The Science of Evil will continue to challenge our understanding of human cruelty.
