This epic journey started with him working for our Uncle Sam sailing Chinese junks in the South China Sea. Leaving Uncle Sam started "smuggling" heavy boxes and people, money was hand-over-fist and a small fortune was banked. Hong Kong "night life" with "Long Dress Dancers" and "Sing Sing Girls" was the tease of plenty men and every seaport town had it's own specialty of offering "silk and lace" to the big spenders. You'll be able to read and feel the night breeze of Singapore and see the steam from the food carts of Buogy Street, watching the "Playgirls on Parade." Returning to Hawaii where the author grew up in poverty on a sugarcane plantation, he became a successful real estate developer, developing many projects, several of which changed the skyline of Honolulu. Romances along the way led to "heartaches" and the pain of mind and feelings started the writing of poetry...the Sun "Peeking" stole the night..."My Little Hummingbird" sat on air...and happiness was a new pair of shoes and a "Love Mate" I didn't want to lose.

First published in 1992. The Pacific Ocean is the largest geographical feature on the face of the earth, covering about one third of its entire surface. Occupying part of that large expanse are the far-flung islands of the Pacific. As the papers of this volume clearly indicate, the post-world war II era and decolonization have brought unprecedented change, and the Pacific is now experiencing problems that were formerly associated with other Third World nations. Most Pacific countries have rapidly expanding populations, and over half of all Pacific Islanders are now in their teenage years or younger. Education and modern communications have served to increase aspirations and attracted by hopes of employment and the distractions of urban life, islanders are gravitating to urban centers.

Hotel Honolulu written by Paul Theroux and has been published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-05-15 with Fiction categories.

A writer turned Hawaiian hotel manager observes the many lives that pass through his rooms in this novel by the author of The Great Railway Bazaar. A New York Times Notable Book In this wickedly satiric romp, a down-on-his-luck writer finds escape from his life as the manager of a low-rent hotel a few blocks from the beach in Waikiki. His boss is quick to explain that the Hotel Honolulu is a multistory establishment—and the writer soon discovers just how many stories are contained in its walls. Honeymooners, vacationers, wanderers, mythomaniacs, soldiers, and families all check in. Like the Canterbury pilgrims, every guest has come in search of something, whether it’s sun, love, happiness, or objects of unnameable longing. And every guest—not to mention the staff, the owner, and the author himself—has a story. By turns hilarious, ribald, tender, and tragic, Hotel Honolulu offers a unique glimpse into the psychological landscape of an American paradise. “A sun-soaked Decameron.”—Chicago Sun-Times
