The Brain S Alpha Rhythms And The Mind written by John Crosley Shaw and has been published by Elsevier Science Health Science Division this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Medical categories.

To the author's knowledge this book is the first to review the whole field of the Alpha rhythm component of the electroencephalogram (EEG). It reviews the classical studies from the 1930s through the 1980s when EEG research became dominated by event-related potential studies. Renewed interest in the alpha rhythm developed in the 1990s when neuronal oscillations became a major focus of interest in the neurophysiology of brain function. Many of the later studies of alpha activity that resulted from this development are fully documented in the book. Three main themes are presented throughout the book. First, the recognition of the ubiquitous nature of the alpha rhythm such that there are multiple sites of alpha rhythm generation in the brain, many only being detected by using appropriate signal analysis techniques. This has resulted in the recognition of 'alpha activities', in place of the classical unitary alpha rhythm. Second, the attempts to use a hemisphere function model to relate alpha activity response to mental activity and inter-individual variation are critically reviewed and shown to be equivocal. In particular the significance of independent alpha components within the alpha frequency band is described. Third, both classical and new ideas about the generation of the EEG, particularly alpha activity, are reviewed and some new concepts about its functional significance are presented. There is currently extensive interest in the brain, particularly in relation to the concept of consciousness. Therefore, many chapters include introductory material relating to neuroscience, neuropsychology and psychophysiology. There is also a critique of the use of alpha activity in biofeedback, hypnosis and meditation. Because EEG research is very dependent on advances in the technology of EEG measurement, an introduction to this technology is included as an appendix. A second appendix describes the historical origin of the concept of desynchronisation.

Many personal diagnoses are helped by bringing the brain into aligned functioning. This kid-friendly meditation exercise book is focused on producing Alpha frequency (8-12 Hz), also known as Berger waves. By reading the meditation exercise aloud to youth, they practice focus and calming. The exercise is simple enough for kindergartners, and mature enough for teens and adults. Alpha waves increase just after wakening. They have been thought of as the, "clear morning brain," alert and focused. Many neurofeedback protocols are Alpha frequency targeted to improve symptoms of PTSD, ADD & ADHD, trauma, and other sources of brain incoherence. This is not a medical book, nor medical advice, so use and results should be monitored by a licensed medical team. Research is always evolving so this book may have different effects for different people, again, a requirement to use only under the supervision and recommendation of a licensed medical team. The author and publisher disclaim direct and indirect responsibility for the material contained herein. This Alpha frequency meditation is non-religious, asking the meditator to focus on their breath, themselves, and how they feel. The intent is self-regulation and focus, while still being aware of the world around them. From this 'safe' state, the person can be more 'ready' to join the world around them, and live a more peaceful life.

Awakening The Mind written by Anna Wise and has been published by National Geographic Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-03-18 with Psychology categories.

Each moment of our lives, from birth to death, our brains are engaged in an endless symphony of patterns. In Awakening the Mind, Anna Wise reveals how a careful understanding of the four types of brain waves, and the practice of carefully designed meditation exercises that lead to a mastery of each type, can vastly improve everyday focus, memory, concentration, and overall mental awareness. Over the past three decades, Wise has measured the brain-wave patterns of spiritual teachers, artists, high-performing businessmen, athletes, and other highly creative and productive individuals. She discovered that, during periods of peak mental awareness and clarity, they all exhibited a specific brain-wave pattern in which the four categories of brain waves—alpha, beta, theta, and delta—combined in a distinct configuration. In this book, Wise provides meditation exercises specially developed to lead readers to achieve that heightened mental state referred to as the Awakened Mind.

A Symphony In The Brain written by Jim Robbins and has been published by Open Road + Grove/Atlantic this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-03 with Medical categories.

A “fascinating overview” of neurofeedback and its potential benefits for treating depression, autism, epilepsy, and other conditions (Discover). Since A Symphony in the Brain was first published, the scientific understanding of our bodies, brains, and minds has taken remarkable leaps. From neurofeedback with functional magnetic resonance imaging equipment, to the use of radio waves, to biofeedback of the heart and breath and coverage of biofeedback by health insurance plans, this expanded and updated edition of the groundbreaking book traces the fascinating untold story of the development of biofeedback. Discovered by a small corps of research scientists, this alternative treatment allows a patient to see real-time measurements of their bodily processes. Its advocates claim biofeedback can treat epilepsy, autism, attention deficit disorder, addictions, and depression with no drugs or side effects; bring patients out of vegetative states; and even improve golf scores or an opera singer’s voice. But biofeedback has faced battles for acceptance in the conservative medical world despite positive signs that it could revolutionize the way a diverse range of medical and psychological problems are treated. Offering case studies, accessible scientific explanations, and dramatic personal accounts, this book explores the possibilities for the future of our health. “Robbins details the fascinating medical history of the therapy, tracing it back to French physician Paul Broca’s discovery of the region in the brain where speech originates. At the heart of this riveting story are the people whose lives have been transformed by neurofeedback, from the doctors and psychologists who employ it to the patients who have undergone treatment.” —Publishers Weekly
