In Italia tra Cinquecento e Seicento convivere senza essere sposati diventò un delitto, represso con asprezza dalle Curie vescovili, non dalle autorità statali. Scomuniche, irruzioni domiciliari, carcere, multe colpirono migliaia di coppie di fatto e raggiunsero presto chiunque vivesse relazioni proibite: anche gli amanti subirono in misura crescente conseguenze così pesanti. Ancor più rischioso fu difendere il diritto di vivere la sessualità in modo difforme dall’etica ufficiale. In quei casi interveniva l’Inquisizione e apriva processi d’eresia. Per la Chiesa il bilancio non fu lusinghiero: poche regolarizzazioni, contromisure dei conviventi spesso efficaci, vescovi appiattiti su logiche repressive. Per le coppie di fatto si moltiplicarono le sofferenze: famiglie distrutte, donne criminalizzate, bambini privati dei genitori. Ma molti difesero con forza le proprie scelte, anche perché il clero stesso aderì con freddezza all’accresciuto rigore dei vertici diocesani, e non mancarono reazioni dure, talora dissacranti. Le pagine di Giovanni Romeo, tessute di una ricchissima documentazione inedita, raccontano quell’aspra battaglia, con particolare attenzione alla più grande città italiana di antico regime, Napoli, e invitano a riflettere – contro ogni facile revisionismo – sul peso dell’intolleranza religiosa nella storia d’Italia.

E, infine, diversi per quanto siamo in grado di darlo, o mostrarlo, questo amore che ci batte dentro al petto. Ma quanti tipi di amore esistono? Rita Tenerini è nata il 15 febbraio 1947 a Perugia, città che ama e che fa da sfondo a gran parte delle vicende raccontate nei suoi scritti, dai quali non si discosta quasi mai dal suo mondo interiore, guidata sempre dall'amore per tutto ciò che richiama alla natura. Si è occupata di erboristeria e medicina naturale e diretto per vari anni la conduzione di un agriturismo, accompagnata sempre dalla sua grande passione per l’arte e la letteratura. Ha partecipato a numerosi concorsi di poesia e racconti, classificandosi sempre ai primi posti. Ha pubblicato i romanzi: Il vizio della vita, Edizioni Era Nuova 2006 e Alla foce di Setteranocchi, Edizioni Guerra, 2008.
