Organizational citizenship behavior can be defined as voluntary and spontaneous behaviors that extend beyond employees' normal job duties. In other word, Organizational citizenship behaviors (OCB) describe actions in which employees are willing to go above and beyond their prescribed role requirements. A sample of 57 dyads of managers and their supervisors (i.e., 114 respondents) participated in this study. The reliabilities of the scales were .83 organizational citizenship behaviors and .86 emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence was significantly correlated to conscientiousness, civic virtue, and altruistic behaviors of followers. The method suggested by Barron and Kenny (1986) was used to test mediation of organizational citizenship behavior between emotional intelligence, but nothing significant was found. The relationship between organizational citizenship behaviour and emotional intelligence has been explored among employees of thermal plants in India. This empirical study intends to examine the relationship between organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB) as a dependent variable and emotional intelligence (EI) as an independent variable. Five dimensions of OCB namely, altruism, sportsmanship, conscientiousness, courtesy and civic virtue have been included in the study; whereas four dimensions of EI based on Schutte et al. (1998) i.e. perception of emotions, managing own emotions, managing others' emotions and utilization of emotions have been tested. EI of the respondents has been self-reported, while OCB has been superior rated. The outcomes indicated that there is positive relationship between OCB and EI and EI significantly predicted OCB of the respondent after controlling for the demographic variables. Among OCB dimensions, sportsmanship and courtesy emerge as statistically significant; while among EI dimensions, utilization of emotions and managing own emotions have been found as greatest contributors.

This research investigated the relationship between organizational citizenship behaviors, emotional intelligence, and job satisfaction. The purpose of the study was to gain a greater understanding of the antecedents of organizational citizenship behavior. Subjects were 71 employees of three golf and country clubs located in the southeastern part of the United States. The participants were given five surveys to complete. Correlation analyses and a multiple regression analysis were conducted on the data. The results indicated that cognitive job satisfaction was significantly correlated with organizational citizenship behaviors and that emotional intelligence was significantly correlated with the altruism dimension of organizational citizenship behaviors. The results also showed that emotional intelligence did not moderate the relationship between job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behavior. Exploratory analyses revealed that emotional intelligence did add unique variance to organizational citizenship behaviors above and beyond personality traits. Implications of the findings and future research are discussed.

Emotional intelligence (EI) has been related to a number of positive work outcomes including organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs). Trait based measures of EI have been shown to be stronger predictors of OCBs than ability based measures of EI. The goals of this study were to (1) examine possible variables that might be influencing the differences seen between EI types and OCBs (specifically investigating compassion towards others as a moderating variable), (2) explore the relationship among compassion towards others and other commonly studied psychological variables, and (3) test the incremental validity of EI types above the contribution of the Big Five of personality in predicting OCBs. The current study sampled 357 participants who completed an online survey. Data were collected from Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk). Because of the emphasis on work related outcomes in this study, participants were limited to those who are employed and working at least 20 hours a week at the time of the survey. Further restrictions were included for participants by only collecting data from individuals who are at least 25 years or older and live in the United States. Results showed that trait and ability EI are significantly correlated with OCBs and compassion. Compassion was also significantly correlated with OCBs. In addition, trait EI did not show incremental validity in predicting OCBs compared to the Big Five. However, compassion and ability EI taken together did show incremental validity in predicting OCBs compared to the Big Five. Finally, compassion did not moderate the relationship between EI and OCBs. This study was the first to examine compassion towards others as it relates with EI and organizational variables. Findings suggest that compassion is an important factor in predicting the citizenship behaviors of individuals. This study could lead to a greater appreciation in organizational research of using compassion as a predictor of different work outcomes. Additionally, this research may also influence the utilization of compassion in staffing and developmental decisions in fields where OCBs are critical to overall job performance.

The purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between conflict resolution strategies (accommodating, avoiding, compromising, collaborating, and competing) with workplace frustration and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) with the moderating role of trait emotional intelligence (EI) on their relations. Data was collected through a close-ended questionnaire from 298 employees (male = 197, female =101) working at different private organizations of the manufacturing and service industry within the city of Karachi. The data were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis and structured equation modeling. The results indicated that accommodating and avoiding strategies don't seems to have any effect on both frustration and OCB. Accommodating seems to positively and significantly affect both. Compromising significantly and positively affect OCB, however, dominating is affecting frustration. EI also seems to influences both OCB and frustration. EI also complements accommodating and collaboration strategies with workplace frustration. This study is first of its kind in the local context in private sectors and paves the way for further research in the public sector.

This manuscript examines the relationship of emotional intelligence (El) with transformational leadership (TL) and organizational citizenship behavior (OeB) of the followers. A sample of 57 dyads of managers and their supervisors (i.e. 114 respondents) participated in this study. The reliabilities of the scales were - OeB(0.83), TL (0.88), and El (0.86). El was significantly correlated to conscientiousness, civic virtue, and altruistic behaviors of followers. The method suggested by Barron and Kenny (1986) was used to test mediation of EI between TL and OeB but nothing significant was found. The results indicate that emotional intelligence of leaders enhances the OeB of followers. However, EI of the leader may not be the only factor determining the perception of TL.
