Computer arithmetic has become so fundamentally embedded into digital design that many engineers are unaware of the many research advances in the area. As a result, they are losing out on emerging opportunities to optimize its use in targeted applications and technologies. In many cases, easily available standard arithmetic hardware might not necessarily be the most efficient implementation strategy. Multiple-Base Number System: Theory and Applications stands apart from the usual books on computer arithmetic with its concentration on the uses and the mathematical operations associated with the recently introduced multiple-base number system (MBNS). The book identifies and explores several diverse and never-before-considered MBNS applications (and their implementation issues) to enhance computation efficiency, specifically in digital signal processing (DSP) and public key cryptography. Despite the recent development and increasing popularity of MBNS as a specialized tool for high-performance calculations in electronic hardware and other fields, no single text has compiled all the crucial, cutting-edge information engineers need to optimize its use. The authors’ main goal was to disseminate the results of extensive design research—including much of their own—to help the widest possible audience of engineers, computer scientists, and mathematicians. Dedicated to helping readers apply discoveries in advanced integrated circuit technologies, this single reference is packed with a wealth of vital content previously scattered throughout limited-circulation technical and mathematical journals and papers—resources generally accessible only to researchers and designers working in highly specialized fields. Leveling the informational playing field, this resource guides readers through an in-depth analysis of theory, architectural techniques, and the latest research on the subject, subsequently laying the groundwork users require to begin applying MBNS.

On Chip Inductance In High Speed Integrated Circuits written by Yehea I. Ismail and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-02-28 with Computers categories.

This research monograph deals with the design and analysis of integrated circuits, and describes how on-chip inductance can have a tangible effect on high speed integrated circuits. Ismail (Northwestern University) and Friedman (University of Rochester) review basic transmission line theory, methods for evaluating the transient response of linear networks, and characterization of MOS transistors. They then introduce a closed form solution for the propagation delay of a CMOS gate driving a lossy transmission line with a terminating CMOS gate. Further discussion includes waveform characterization of signals at different nodes of an RLC tree, dynamic and short-circuit power of CMOS gates driving lossless transmission lines, and the direct truncation of the transfer function (DTT) method for evaluation of the transient response in RLC circuits. c. Parasitic Substrate Coupling In High Voltage Integrated Circuits written by Pietro Buccella and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-14 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book introduces a new approach to model and predict substrate parasitic failures in integrated circuits with standard circuit design tools. The injection of majority and minority carriers in the substrate is a recurring problem in smart power ICs containing high voltage, high current switching devices besides sensitive control, protection and signal processing circuits. The injection of parasitic charges leads to the activation of substrate bipolar transistors. This book explores how these events can be evaluated for a wide range of circuit topologies. To this purpose, new generalized devices implemented in Verilog-A are used to model the substrate with standard circuit simulators. This approach was able to predict for the first time the activation of a latch-up in real circuits through post-layout SPICE simulation analysis. Discusses substrate modeling and circuit-level simulation of parasitic bipolar device coupling effects in integrated circuits; Includes circuit back-annotation of the parasitic lateral n-p-n and vertical p-n-p bipolar transistors in the substrate; Uses Spice for simulation and characterization of parasitic bipolar transistors, latch-up of the parasitic p-n-p-n structure, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection devices; Offers design guidelines to reduce couplings by adding specific protections.

The field of application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) is fast-paced being at the very forefront of modern nanoscale fabrication and presents a deeply engaging career path. ASICs can provide us with high-speed computation in the case of digital circuits. For example, central processing units, graphics processing units, field-programmable gate arrays, and custom-made digital signal processors are examples of ASICs and the transistors they are fabricated from. We can use that same technology complementary metal-oxide semiconductor processes to implement high-precision sensing of or interfacing to the world through analog-to-digital converters, digital-to-analog converters, custom image sensors, and highly integrated micron-scale sensors such as magnetometers, accelerometers, and microelectromechanical machines. ASIC technologies now transitioning toward magneto-resistive and phase-changing materials also offer digital memory capacities that have aided our technological progress. Combining these domains, we have moved toward big data analytics and the new era of artificial intelligence and machine learning. This book provides a small selection of chapters covering aspects of ASIC development and the surrounding business model.
