This book presents Analytical and Approximate Methods for Complex Dynamical Systems and introduces ideas of discontinuous mapping treated as complex dynamical systems. Mathematicians of world-recognized Ukrainian scientific schools established by M.Krylov, M.Bogolyubov, Yu.Mitropolskiy, and A.Sharkovsky used to cooperate for writing the collective book whose purpose consists of illustrating a synergy of combining diverse (by idea and technique) constructive analytical and approximate approaches and methods in complex dynamical systems which are herein associated with mathematical models of networks, conflict/economic theories, sloshing, soft matter, and even levitating drops. Readers are facilitated to learn contemporary insights, fundamentals (Parts I and III), applications (Part II), and components of theories of bifurcation, synchronization/self-organization, collective dynamics, chaos, solitons, fractional differential equations, symmetry, reduced order modelling, and many others, that makes the book useful for both graduate and postgraduate students, lecturers, researchers, and even engineers dealing with multidimensional dynamic systems.

This book is the first to report on theoretical breakthroughs on control of complex dynamical systems developed by collaborative researchers in the two fields of dynamical systems theory and control theory. As well, its basic point of view is of three kinds of complexity: bifurcation phenomena subject to model uncertainty, complex behavior including periodic/quasi-periodic orbits as well as chaotic orbits, and network complexity emerging from dynamical interactions between subsystems. Analysis and Control of Complex Dynamical Systems offers a valuable resource for mathematicians, physicists, and biophysicists, as well as for researchers in nonlinear science and control engineering, allowing them to develop a better fundamental understanding of the analysis and control synthesis of such complex systems.

Mathematical models are used to simulate, and sometimes control, the behavior of physical and artificial processes such as the weather and very large-scale integration (VLSI) circuits. The increasing need for accuracy has led to the development of highly complex models. However, in the presence of limited computational accuracy and storage capabilities model reduction (system approximation) is often necessary. Approximation of Large-Scale Dynamical Systems provides a comprehensive picture of model reduction, combining system theory with numerical linear algebra and computational considerations. It addresses the issue of model reduction and the resulting trade-offs between accuracy and complexity. Special attention is given to numerical aspects, simulation questions, and practical applications.

Structural Dynamic Analysis With Generalized Damping Models written by Sondipon Adhikari and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-25 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Since Lord Rayleigh introduced the idea of viscous damping in his classic work "The Theory of Sound" in 1877, it has become standard practice to use this approach in dynamics, covering a wide range of applications from aerospace to civil engineering. However, in the majority of practical cases this approach is adopted more for mathematical convenience than for modeling the physics of vibration damping. Over the past decade, extensive research has been undertaken on more general "non-viscous" damping models and vibration of non-viscously damped systems. This book, along with a related book Structural Dynamic Analysis with Generalized Damping Models: Identification, is the first comprehensive study to cover vibration problems with general non-viscous damping. The author draws on his considerable research experience to produce a text covering: dynamics of viscously damped systems; non-viscously damped single- and multi-degree of freedom systems; linear systems with non-local and non-viscous damping; reduced computational methods for damped systems; and finally a method for dealing with general asymmetric systems. The book is written from a vibration theory standpoint, with numerous worked examples which are relevant across a wide range of mechanical, aerospace and structural engineering applications. Contents 1. Introduction to Damping Models and Analysis Methods. 2. Dynamics of Undamped and Viscously Damped Systems. 3. Non-Viscously Damped Single-Degree-of-Freedom Systems. 4. Non-viscously Damped Multiple-Degree-of-Freedom Systems. 5. Linear Systems with General Non-Viscous Damping. 6. Reduced Computational Methods for Damped Systems

Binary Decision Diagrams And Extensions For System Reliability Analysis written by Liudong Xing and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-06-05 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Recent advances in science and technology have made modern computing and engineering systems more powerful and sophisticated than ever. The increasing complexity and scale imply that system reliability problems not only continue to be a challenge but also require more efficient models and solutions. This is the first book systematically covering the state-of-the-art binary decision diagrams and their extended models, which can provide efficient and exact solutions to reliability analysis of large and complex systems. The book provides both basic concepts and detailed algorithms for modelling and evaluating reliability of a wide range of complex systems, such as multi-state systems, phased-mission systems, fault-tolerant systems with imperfect fault coverage, systems with common-cause failures, systems with disjoint failures, and systems with functional dependent failures. These types of systems abound in safety-critical or mission-critical applications such as aerospace, circuits, power systems, medical systems, telecommunication systems, transmission systems, traffic light systems, data storage systems, and etc. The book provides both small-scale illustrative examples and large-scale benchmark examples to demonstrate broad applications and advantages of different decision diagrams based methods for complex system reliability analysis. Other measures including component importance and failure frequency are also covered. A rich set of references is cited in the book, providing helpful resources for readers to pursue further research and study of the topics. The target audience of the book is reliability and safety engineers or researchers. The book can serve as a textbook on system reliability analysis. It can also serve as a tutorial and reference book on decision diagrams, multi-state systems, phased-mission systems, and imperfect fault coverage models.

This book is aimed primarily towards physicists and mechanical engineers specializing in modeling, analysis, and control of discontinuous systems with friction and impacts. It fills a gap in the existing literature by offering an original contribution to the field of discontinuous mechanical systems based on mathematical and numerical modeling as well as the control of such systems. Each chapter provides the reader with both the theoretical background and results of verified and useful computations, including solutions of the problems of modeling and application of friction laws in numerical computations, results from finding and analyzing impact solutions, the analysis and control of dynamical systems with discontinuities, etc. The contents offer a smooth correspondence between science and engineering and will allow the reader to discover new ideas. Also emphasized is the unity of diverse branches of physics and mathematics towards understanding complex piecewise-smooth dynamical systems. Mathematical models presented will be important in numerical experiments, experimental measurements, and optimization problems found in applied mechanics.

Computation And Asymptotics written by Rudrapatna V. Ramnath and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-01-11 with Mathematics categories.

This book addresses the task of computation from the standpoint of asymptotic analysis and multiple scales that may be inherent in the system dynamics being studied. This is in contrast to the usual methods of numerical analysis and computation. The technical literature is replete with numerical methods such as Runge-Kutta approach and its variations, finite element methods, and so on. However, not much attention has been given to asymptotic methods for computation, although such approaches have been widely applied with great success in the analysis of dynamic systems. The presence of different scales in a dynamic phenomenon enable us to make judicious use of them in developing computational approaches which are highly efficient. Many such applications have been developed in such areas as astrodynamics, fluid mechanics and so on. This book presents a novel approach to make use of the different time constants inherent in the system to develop rapid computational methods. First, the fundamental notions of asymptotic analysis are presented with classical examples. Next, the novel systematic and rigorous approaches of system decomposition and reduced order models are presented. Next, the technique of multiple scales is discussed. Finally application to rapid computation of several aerospace systems is discussed, demonstrating the high efficiency of such methods.
