Census data are widely used by practitioners to understand demographic change, allocate resources, address inequalities, and make sound business decisions. Until recently, projects using US Census data have required proficiency with multiple web interfaces and software platforms to prepare, map, and present data products. This book introduces readers to tools in the R programming language for accessing and analyzing Census data, helping analysts manage these types of projects in a single computing environment. Chapters in the book cover following key topics: Rapidly acquiring data from the decennial US Census and American Community Survey using R, then analyzing these datasets using tidyverse tools; Visualizing US Census data with a wide range of methods including charts in ggplot2 as well as both static and interactive maps; Using R as a geographic information system (GIS) to manage, analyze, and model spatial demographic data from the US Census; Working with and modeling individual-level microdata from the American Community Survey's PUMS datasets; Applying these tools and workflows to analysis of historical Census data, other US government datasets, and international Census data from countries like Canada, Brazil, Kenya, and Mexico.

Mass media has frequently covered stories concerning "outsourcing" or the moving of U.S. jobs to foreign locations by U.S. multinational companies. More often than not this "outsourcing" is of benefit to the companies' owners and managers. The discussion has spilled over into the political debate with candidates for national office making statements and suggesting policies for dealing with the issue. Due to the fact that many companies have fragmented the production process, however, it is difficult to examine the effect of "outsourcing"- the transfer of a business function from inside a firm to an outside source, with no reference to borders of countries- and "offshoring"-the movement of jobs that had been in the United States to a foreign location, without regard to business ownership- on the U.S. as many imports contain U.S. parts and many exports contain foreign parts. In the current situation, Congress mandated a study by the National Research Council, which was undertaken by the Committee on Analyzing the U.S. Content of Imports and the Foreign Content of Exports under a contract with the U.S. Department of Commerce. Analyzing the U.S. Content of Imports and the Foreign Content of Exports presents the findings of the committee. The committee refers to the availability and quality of data on the foreign content of U.S. exports and the domestic content of U.S. imports as "the content question." This was not been an easy task as data on actual content simply do not exist.

Census workers need to capture and analyze information at the finest geographic level with mobile and geospatial-based technology. GIS and the 2020 Census: Modernizing Official Statistics provides statistical organizations with the most recent GIS methodologies and technological tools to support census workers' needs at all the stages of a census. Learn how to plan and carry out census work with GIS using new technologies for field data collection and operations management. After planning and collecting data, apply innovative solutions for performing statistical analysis, data integration and dissemination. Additional topics cover cloud computing, big data, Location as a Service (LaaS), and emerging data sources. While GIS and the 2020 Census focuses on using GIS and other geospatial technology in support of census planning and operations, it also offers guidelines for building a statistical-geospatial information infrastructure in support of the 2020 Round of Censuses, evidence-based decision making, and sustainable development. Case studies illustrate concepts in practice.

Analyzing the Social Web provides a framework for the analysis of public data currently available and being generated by social networks and social media, like Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare. Access and analysis of this public data about people and their connections to one another allows for new applications of traditional social network analysis techniques that let us identify things like who are the most important or influential people in a network, how things will spread through the network, and the nature of peoples' relationships. Analyzing the Social Web introduces you to these techniques, shows you their application to many different types of social media, and discusses how social media can be used as a tool for interacting with the online public. - Presents interactive social applications on the web, and the types of analysis that are currently conducted in the study of social media - Covers the basics of network structures for beginners, including measuring methods for describing nodes, edges, and parts of the network - Discusses the major categories of social media applications or phenomena and shows how the techniques presented can be applied to analyze and understand the underlying data - Provides an introduction to information visualization, particularly network visualization techniques, and methods for using them to identify interesting features in a network, generate hypotheses for analysis, and recognize patterns of behavior - Includes a supporting website with lecture slides, exercises, and downloadable social network data sets that can be used can be used to apply the techniques presented in the book

Analyze large datasets directly from R. Scaling Up With R and Arrow provides a guide to working efficiently with larger-than-memory datasets using the arrow R package. As data grows in size and complexity, traditional data analysis methods in R often hit technical limitations. In this book, you'll learn how to overcome these hurdles without needing to set up complex infrastructure. You'll learn about the Apache Arrow project's origins, goals, and its significance in bridging the gap between data science and big data ecosystems. You'll also learn how to leverage the arrow R package to work directly with files in various formats, such as CSV and Parquet, using familiar dplyr syntax. This book explores practical topics like data manipulation, file formats, working with larger datasets, and optimizing workflows for data in cloud storage. Advanced chapters examine user-defined functions, integration with other tools like DuckDB, and extending Arrow's capabilities to work with geospatial data. Written by developers of the Arrow R package, this guide is essential for anyone looking to scale their data processing capabilities in R.

Analyzing The Feasibility Of Utilizing Small Diameter Hardwood Timber For Solid Wood Products And Residues written by Brian Perkins and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Feasibility studies categories.
The eastern hardwood forest contains small diameter timber that is often of lower quality and lower value than larger sawtimber. This small diameter hardwood timber has traditionally been utilized for pulpwood, but it can also be used for lumber and residue production. In order to increase the utilization of this resource by sawmills, a number of analyses need to be conducted. These analyses include a resource analysis, yield analysis, economic analysis, and finally a market analysis. This report gives detailed instructions for conducting each of these analyses. The successful completion of these analyses will help hardwood lumber companies determine if using small diameter hardwood timber is a good decision for their company.
