El trabajo de lectura y reconstrucción de los casos amorosos implícitos en la antología constituye un paso importante para afrontar interpretaciones novedosas de la obra. Por eso, pese a las dificultades obvias, en las páginas siguientes se van a dar las claves básicas para llevar a cabo dicha lectura. Lo primero será el análisis detenido de la antología: sus fuentes y modelos literarios, las características de los poemas que la integran, las distintas ediciones existentes y la posible solución a sus diferencias mediante la lectura secuenciada de aquellos poemas de la obra en los que se localizan los distintos casos amorosos y, cómo no, su estructura. Se estudiará la posibilidad de dividir la antología como si de un libro de pastores en siete jornadas se tratara, y se analizaron los distintos modelos literarios y grupos de personajes que se dan cita en ellos. Una vez localizados los personajes y modelos literarios de cada una de las obras fuente, se llevará a cabo una lectura ecuenciada de distintos grupos de poemas de la antología que permita localizar los diferentes casos amorosos en los que dichos personajes se ven envueltos y que, como en las fuentes, también van a estar presentes en Englands Helicon.
