El objeto de la sociología urbana es el estudio de la relación sistémica entre la ciudad como espacio físico construido por el hombre y las relaciones sociales que en este tienen lugar. Diseñado con intención pedagógica, el libro presenta un recorrido panorámico y exhaustivo por esta vasta labor de investigación de más de un siglo y medio, ordenando y analizando sus principales escuelas y autores a partir de un doble eje cronoló-gico/epistemológico. Se trata por ello de una obra de referencia idónea para estudiantes de sociología, antropología, historia contemporánea, urbanismo, geografía humana, ordenación del territorio o arquitectura, entre otras disciplinas.
