The Retornados From The Portuguese Colonies In Africa written by Elsa Peralta and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-09 with History categories.

Placed in the wider scope of post-war European decolonisation migrations, The Retornados from the Portuguese Colonies in Africa looks at the "Return" of the Portuguese nationals living in the African colonies when they became independent. Using an interdisciplinary research agenda, the book presents a collection of research essays written by experts in the fields of anthropology, history, literature and the arts, that look at a wide range of memory narratives through which the Return—as well as the experiences of war, violence, loss and trauma—have been expressed, contested and internalised in the social realm. These narratives include testimonial accounts from the so-called retornados from Africa and their descendants, as well as works of fiction and public memory—novels, television series, artworks, films or social media—that have come to mediate the public understanding of this past. Through the dialogue between these different narrative modes, this book intends to explore the interplay between official memory, the lived experience and fiction, thus contributing to build an empirical basis to critically discuss the memory of the end of the Portuguese empire within postcolonial Europe. This book will be of great interest to postgraduates, researchers and academics, most notably the ones working in the fields of postcolonial studies, cultural studies and memory studies.

The Routledge Handbook of Global Historical Archaeology is a multi-authored compendium of articles on specific topics of interest to today’s historical archaeologists, offering perspectives on the current state of research and collectively outlining future directions for the field. The broad range of topics covered in this volume allows for specificity within individual chapters, while building to a cumulative overview of the field of historical archaeology as it stands, and where it could go next. Archaeological research is discussed in the context of current sociological concerns, different approaches and techniques are assessed, and potential advances are posited. This is a comprehensive treatment of the sub-discipline, engaging key contemporary debates, and providing a series of specially-commissioned geographical overviews to complement the more theoretical explorations. This book is designed to offer a starting point for students who may wish to pursue particular topics in more depth, as well as for non-archaeologists who have an interest in historical archaeology. Archaeologists, historians, preservationists, and all scholars interested in the role historical archaeology plays in illuminating daily life during the past five centuries will find this volume engaging and enlightening.

Death itself is already a major taboo in the Western world. The same can be said about grief, particulalry when it is not seen as such - the so-called symbolic and/or ambiguous losses. With this reality in mind, Gabriela Casellato has gathered fundamental texts to better understand the subject. Divided into four parts - "GRIEF IN EARLY-LIFE LOSSES ", "GRIEF IN LOSSES BY NON-NORMATIVE LIFEE-COUSE TRANSITIONS", "Grief in Care Giving" and "Social Engagement: From Silence to Action" – this book also includes an afterword on the Covid-19 pandemic, which has swept the world and continues to devastate Brazil. Topics covered include: -Fraternal mourning, widowhood, and falling ill with cancer; -Grief faced by those outside of heteronormativity; -Mourning of women who fail to get pregnant; -Subjective and objective losses of immigrants; -Emotional difficulties of formal and informal caregivers and palliative care teams; -Grief of patients who lose their therapist; - Silenced grief of people in religious roles. "This new book edited by Gabriela Casellato is a great contribution to the subject of disenfranchised grief. This volume features chapters by psychologists specialized in the subject, as well as texts written by people who have lived through these losses. Casellato not only expands the dimensions of symbolic/ambiguous loss, but also applies the concept to the specifics of Brazilian culture, integrating theory and intervention. Mandatory work for psychologists, educators and all those who deal with losses without the support and validation they need." KENNETH J. DOKA PHD, author of Disenfranchised grief: new connections, challenges, and strategies for practice. "In her book, Disenfranchised Grief in Contemporary Society, Gabriela Casellato assembles a capable cast of contributors who ask the hard questions and offer authoritative answers regarding the marginalized, stigmatized or simply invisible losses that abound in human life, and that call for greater communal and societal recognition and support. More than simply sounding a call to consciousness, it stretches the boundaries of our understanding of disqualified, disenfranchised loss, whether it arises in connection with the death of a person, place, project or possibility that had once been life-defining. I recommend it to every professional seeking greater clarity, competence and compassion regarding the silent suffering of many of those they serve, and to every one of us who carry the private weight of our own hidden losses." ROBERT A. NEIMEYER, PhD, editor of New Techniques of Grief Therapy: Bereavement and Beyond, and Director, Portland Institute for Loss and Transition

HUGH JOHNSON said *Marcelo is right: wine is not really about bottles and barrels and grape varieties. They are just the technical background. Wine is about life: a glorious adjunct to life well-lived, with all its interests, all its passions. In this highly original book, Marcelo explores a host of wine-connected topics, from music to sex to post- -modernism. His musings are stream-of-consciousness considered, researched and documented; a rare recipe, seasoned with wit and even a little wisdom. 'Music doesn't say everything' he quotes from José Miguel Wisnik, "but it somehow implies the whole'. Wine, too, in a way*. The collaboration between the Textile Department of the University of Minho and the Brazilian Association of Studies and Research (ABEPEM) has led to an international platform for the exchange of research in the field of Fashion and Design: CIMODE. This platform is designed as a biennial congress that takes place in different European and Latin American countries with the co-organization of another university in each location. The current edition was jointly organized by the University of Minho and the Centro Superior de Diseño de Moda (CSDMM) - Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. CIMODE's mission is to explore fashion and design from a social, cultural, psychological and communication perspective, and to bring together different approaches and perceptions of practice, education and the culture of design and fashion. Through an interdisciplinary dialogue and intercultural perspective, CIMODE wants to generate and present new scenarios about the present and future of fashion and design. ‘DISEÑO AL REVÉS’ (‘BACKWARD DESIGN’) was the central theme of the 4th CIMODE (Madrid, Spain, 21-23 May 2018), which produced a highly topical and relevant number of academic publications presented in this book.

Senses Affects And Archaeology written by José Roberto Pellini and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-12-14 with Philosophy categories.

Senses and affects, despite what some schools of thought in modern science think, are not only a physiological tool that captures the stimuli present in the world, but are also an apparatus that constantly updates our position in the world. They are material-discursive practices that we employ on a daily basis in the interpretation and evaluation of the world, a material-discursive practice that limits, delimitates, includes and excludes, arranges and rearranges the elements we grasp and interpret within the assemblies in which we are participating. That is why it is so important to understand how we are educated within these material-discursive practices, for this is the first step towards freeing our sense-affective processes and decolonizing our worldview. An archaeology of the senses and affects is aesthetically decolonized. It recognizes that we have been educated within a senso-affective aesthetic that normalizes and colonizes our behaviour. An archaeology of the senses and affects fights against epistemological violence like that manifested in the thinking that people in the past, as well as the present, thought and acted like Westerners.
