Apoptosis And Its Relevance To Autoimmunity written by Keith B. Elkon and has been published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Medical categories.

Over the last 15 years, apoptosis has become a dominant focus of medical research in the field of immunology. This publication discusses the three major areas of apoptosis research: extrinsic death receptor pathways, intrinsic cell death pathways and the mechanisms responsible for apoptotic cell clearance. Each section delineates the proteins and signal transduction pathways and describes genetic alterations that lead to autoimmune diseases. Although most cell death abnormalities have been associated with systemic autoimmune disorders such as lupus erythematosus and lymphoproliferative syndromes, it is evident that regulation of cell death is also pertinent to disease expression in many organ-specific diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and glomerulonephritis. This volume highlights the recent advances in the basic mechanisms of apoptosis and the application of that knowledge to understanding the impact of defective apoptosis or defective clearance of apoptotic cells on the immune function and the expression of disease. It is of special interest to cell biologists, immunologists and clinicians.

Apoptosis And Autoimmunity written by Joachim R. Kalden and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-03-06 with Medical categories.

This is the first comprehensive book about the relationship between apoptosis and autoimmune diseases. It offers a unique up-to-date overview on research results on the defective execution of apoptosis and the incomplete clearance of apoptotic cells. The molecular and cellular mechanisms involved are described in detail. As a possible consequence of apoptotic dysfunction, the development of severe autoimmune diseases (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus) is discussed. An outlook on future research topics includes the evaluation of novel therapeutic strategies.

Remarkable advances have been made in the pathogenesis of autoimmunity, such as with bone marrow transplantation, which is becoming a powerful strategy in treating certain life-threatening diseases. The Molecular Pathology of Autoimmune Diseases is a concise and centralized resource for information on the topic, with a special focus on the molecular and genetic basis of these disorders. Dozens of international experts devote themselves to illuminating the reader in this volume, with discussions on the basic aspects of autoimmune processes to systemic and organ-specific diseases. This volume is an invaluable reference to students and professionals in immunology and related fields.

Innovative Medicine written by Kazuwa Nakao and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-10-13 with Science categories.

This book is devoted to innovative medicine, comprising the proceedings of the Uehara Memorial Foundation Symposium 2014. It remains extremely rare for the findings of basic research to be developed into clinical applications, and it takes a long time for the process to be achieved. The task of advancing the development of basic research into clinical reality lies with translational science, yet the field seems to struggle to find a way to move forward. To create innovative medical technology, many steps need to be taken: development and analysis of optimal animal models of human diseases, elucidation of genomic and epidemiological data, and establishment of “proof of concept”. There is also considerable demand for progress in drug research, new surgical procedures, and new clinical devices and equipment. While the original research target may be rare diseases, it is also important to apply those findings more broadly to common diseases. The book covers a wide range of topics and is organized into three complementary parts. The first part is basic research for innovative medicine, the second is translational research for innovative medicine, and the third is new technology for innovative medicine. This book helps to understand innovative medicine and to make progress in its realization.

Autoantibodies And Autoimmunity written by Kenneth Michael Pollard and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-05-12 with Medical categories.

This is the first book to address all aspects of the biology of autoantibodies in a single volume, including a discussion of immunology, experimental models, clinical aspects, and the use of autoantibodies as probes in molecular and cellular biology. The editor, currently professor at the W.M. Keck Autoimmune Disease Center of The Scripps Research Institute, has assembled an all-star team of authors to report on the latest research, technologies, and applications. Following an introductory chapter, the book goes on to cover such topics as cellular mechanisms of autoantibody production, clinical and diagnostic usefulness in human disease, and animal models used to study the elicitation of autoantibodies. The whole is rounded off with a look at future perspectives. With its comprehensive coverage, this volume will appeal not only to immunologists and clinicians but also to cell and molecular biologists.

Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases written by Hans D. Ochs and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Medical categories.

The second edition of Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases presents discussions of gene identification, mutation detection, and clinical and research applications for over 100 genetic immune disorders--disorders featuring an increased susceptibility to infections and, in certain conditions, an icreased rate of malignancies and autoimmune disorders. Since the publication of the first edition, a flurry of new disease entities has been defined and new treatment regimens have been introduced, the most spectacular being successful treatment by gene therapy for two genotypes of combined immunodeficiency. The first edition marked a historic turning point in the field of immunodeficiencies, demonstrating that many of the disorders of the immune systam could be understood at a molecular level. This new edition can proudly document the tremendous pace of progress in dissecting the complex immunologic networks responsible for protecting individuals from these disorders.

Since publication of the Third Edition in 1998, the understanding of the immune mechanisms underlying autoimmunity and autoimmune disease has significantly deepened and broadened. This Fourth Edition incorporates new material and combines common themes underlying inductive and effector mechanisms and therapies that relate generally to the autoimmune disorders. It discusses the biological basis of disease at genetic, molecular, cellular, and epidemiologic levels.New to This Edition:* Tissue-specific interventions to arrest or "cure" autoimmune disease* Bone marrow eradication and replacement* Both basic science and clinical medicine is covered* Boxed points to emphasize key features of each chapter
