This book is published to coincide with an exhibition of the same name in the Museum Félicien Rops and the Maison de la Culture in Namur. The central theme is the tree, from ancient times to present day art. The tree has always been a source of attraction to men: mystery, protection and veneration. From the trees of good and evil in manuscripts dating back to the Middle Ages, up to the symbolist vision of nineteenth-century artists, the tree has intrigued and fascinated. In our time, contemporary artists continue to be inclined towards this natural element, attempting to grasp its essence. The theme is an inexhaustible source of inspiration to various artistic disciplines, from painting and sculpture to video and photography. Text in English and French. 75 colour illustrations

Michael Kenna Bilingual Edition written by and has been published by Skira Paris this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-11-24 with categories.

Ethereal black-and-white treescapes from a master of long-exposure photography Published to accompany the eponymous exhibition at Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire in France, this catalog gathers a stunning selection of photographs of trees by English-born, Seattle-based photographer Michael Kenna (born 1954). For over 40 years, Kenna has been traveling around the world with his camera immortalizing trees and forests in his signature ethereal lighting, which he achieves by working in the early morning and late-night hours, and through his use of extremely long exposure times, often lasting up to 10 hours. Captured exclusively in black and white, these idyllic images are divorced from both seasonal and geographical context, emphasizing the diversity and plurality of the photographed specimens. On rare occasions, the existence of human civilizations peeks through in his work: some road sections, buildings, fences and stakes or, more surprisingly, slippers, constitute the only traces of human presence. This flattening of setting and simplification of subject allows us to reimagine the colors that are traditionally associated with trees and focus on the interaction between the opaque, delicate black of their branches and the fleecy light that filters through them, generating the wonderful atmospheric effect so distinctive to Kenna's photography.

Trees written by Bruce Albert and has been published by Fondation Cartier Pour l'Art Contemporain, Paris this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019 with Art categories.

Omnipresent and essential to life, trees have been underestimated by biologists. But in recent years, they have been the subject of scientific discoveries that have allowed us to see these oldest and largest members of the community of living beings in a new light. Capable of sensory perception, showing complex communication skills, living in symbiosis with many other species and influencing the climate, trees are equipped with unexpected faculties whose discovery confirms what indigenous, traditional and local communities had long acknowledged. Featuring works by contemporary artists including forest people, scientific imagery, films, photographs and sound installations, the exhibition at the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, Paris, strives to highlight the beauty, ingenuity and biological richness of trees, allowing us to see and hear these impressive protagonists of the living world that now find themselves also under increasing threat. Through paintings, drawings, photographs, scientific images, maps and texts by specialists, the catalogue published to accompany the exhibition invites the reader to dive into the fascinating and beautiful world of trees.
