Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2000 im Fachbereich Philosophie - Philosophie der Antike, Note: sehr gut, Universität Koblenz-Landau (Institut für Philosophie), Veranstaltung: Sprache und Logik (Aristoteles, De interpretatione), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Aristoteles und seine Schrift Peri hermeneias Aristoteles (im Folgenden abgekürzt mit Ar.) wurde 384 v. Chr. in Stagira (Thrakien) geboren und lebte bis 322 v. Chr., wo er auf seinem Landsitz auf Euböa starb. Seine Kindheit verbrachte er vermutlich an der königlichen Residenz in Pella, da sein Vater Leibarzt von Amyntas III. von Makedonien, dem Großvater Alexanders des Großen, war. 367 v. Chr., im Alter von 17 Jahren, kam Ar. nach Athen an die Akademie Platons. Seine dortige Lehrzeit endete erst fast 20 Jahre später mit dem Tode Platons 347. Ar folgte daraufhin der Einladung eines Studienkollegen namens Hermias, Herrscher von Atarneus in Assos, nach Mysien (Kleinasien), wo er einige Jahre in einem kleinen platonischen Zirkel verbrachte. 342 wurde Ar. zurück an den makedonischen Hof berufen, wo er als Erzieher des jungen Alexander fungierte. Etwa 335 kehrte er (nach weiterem Aufenthalt in Stagira) nach Athen zurück und gründete dort eine eigene Schule. 323 verließ er die Stadt wieder, weil man ihn der Gottlosigkeit angeklagt hatte und starb kurze Zeit später auf seinem Landgut bei Chalkis auf Euböa. Ausgangspunkt seiner Lehre sind die Ideen Platons, von denen er sich im Laufe seines Lebens zunehmend distanzierte. I. Ggs. zu seinem Lehrer war Ar. die den Sinnen zugängliche Welt des Alltags Grundlage aller wissenschaftlicher Überlegungen. Dadurch wurde er zum Begründer der modernen Logik . Von seinen Werken sind ausgerechnet die, die er selbst zur Veröffentlichung bestimmt hatte, ausnahmslos verlorengegangen. Die uns erhaltenen, zum sog. Corpus aristotelicum zusammengefassten Schriften dienten wohl eher Unterrichts- und Forschungszwecken. Sie wurden in sieben verschiedene Themengebiete eingeteilt (Jugendschriften, Schriften zur Logik, zur Metaphysik, naturwissenschaftliche Schriften, Schriften zur Ethik, zur Kunst, zu Volkswirtschaft und Politik). Die hier behandelte Schrift Peri hermenaias ist den Schriften zur Logik, dem sog. Organon (=Werkzeug, Instrument für wissenschaftliche Verfahren), zuzuordnen. Die Suche nach historischen Quellen für die Leibniz’sche Philosophie scheint zunächst unerschöpflich. Durch alle in diesem Band versammelten Arbeiten wird der Einfluss der Philosophie des Aristoteles auf das Leibniz’sche Denken näher umrissen. Ein wesentliches Ziel ist es hierbei, einen Beitrag zur Analyse dieser philosophischen Beziehung zu leisten und zu zeigen, dass auch Aristoteles’ Philosophie nach Ansicht unserer Autoren entscheidend zum Verständnis des Leibniz’schen Denkens beiträgt. Die Texte befassen sich mit wesentlichen Themen der Leibniz’schen Logik und Metaphysik, z. B. mit den Grundbegriffen „Monade“ (und deren „Körperhaftigkeit“), „Entelechie“, „Nous“, mit dem Problem der Individuation (Individuum, Atomismus, Einheit), mit den substanziellen Formen, mit der Wissenschaft im Allgemeinen und der Technik, mit der Transformation der Logik, mit den Prinzipien (nämlich denjenigen des zureichenden Grundes, der Individuation und der Notwendigkeit), mit Zukunft und Kontingenz sowie Vergänglichkeit, mit der Theorie der syllogistischen Folgerung, usw. Diese Themen werden stets in der Gegenüberstellung von Leibniz und Aristoteles behandelt – sie zeigen daher, wie Leibniz aristotelische Thesen übernahm, veränderte oder kritisierte. The search for the historical sources of Leibniz’s philosphy initially seems to be unending. All the essays in this volume outline more clearly the influence of Aristotle’s philosophy on Leibniz’s thought. In this context a fundamental aim is to contribute to the analysis of this philosophical relationship and to demonstrate that Aristotle’s philosophy, in the opinion of our authors, plays a decisive role in the understanding of Leibniz’s thought. The texts address fundamental themes of Leibniz’s logic and metaphysics, e.g. the basic concepts of ‘monads’ (and their ‘corporality’), ‘entelechy’ and ‘nous; the problem of individuation (individual, atomism, unity); substantial forms; knowledge in general, and technology; the transformation of logic; principles (namely those of sufficient grounds, of individuation and of necesssity); future and contingency and transientness; the theory of syllogistic deduction, etc. These themes are regularly considered in the comparison between Leibniz and Aristotle – they demonstrate how Leibniz took over, treated or criticised Aristotelian theses.

This book is about determinisism. It contains the two most important commentaries on the determinists' sea battle argument, and on other deterministic arguments besides. It includes the earliest full exposition of the Reaper argument for determinism, and a discussion of whether there can be changeless knowledge of the passage of time. It also contains the two fullest expositions of the idea that it is not truth, but only definite truth, that would imply determinism. Ammonius and Boethius both wrote commentaries on Aristotle's On Interpretation and on its ninth chapter, where Aristotle discusses the sea battle. Their comments are crucial, for Ammonius' commentary influenced the Islamic the Islamic Middle Ages, while that of Boethius was of equal importance to medieval Latin-speaking philosophers. It was once argued that Boethius was influenced by Ammonius, but these translations are published together in this volume to enable the reader to see clearly that this was not the case. Ammonius draws on the fourth- and fifth-century Neoplatonists lamblichus, Syrianus, and Proclus. He arranges his argument around three major deterministic arguments and is our main source for one of them, the Reaper argument, which has hitherto received insufficient attention. Boethius, on the other hand, draws on controversies from 300 years earlier between Stoics and Aristotelians as recorded by Alexander of Aphrodisias and Porphyry. This volume is essential reading for all those with an interest in the history of determinism. Ammonius' commentary on the first eight chapters of Aristotle's On Interpretation has appeared in a previously published volume in this series, translated by David Blank.
