An authority on creativity introduces us to AI-powered computers that are creating art, literature, and music that may well surpass the creations of humans. Today's computers are composing music that sounds “more Bach than Bach,” turning photographs into paintings in the style of Van Gogh's Starry Night, and even writing screenplays. But are computers truly creative—or are they merely tools to be used by musicians, artists, and writers? In this book, Arthur I. Miller takes us on a tour of creativity in the age of machines. Miller, an authority on creativity, identifies the key factors essential to the creative process, from “the need for introspection” to “the ability to discover the key problem.” He talks to people on the cutting edge of artificial intelligence, encountering computers that mimic the brain and machines that have defeated champions in chess, Jeopardy!, and Go. In the central part of the book, Miller explores the riches of computer-created art, introducing us to artists and computer scientists who have, among much else, unleashed an artificial neural network to create a nightmarish, multi-eyed dog-cat; taught AI to imagine; developed a robot that paints; created algorithms for poetry; and produced the world's first computer-composed musical, Beyond the Fence, staged by Android Lloyd Webber and friends. But, Miller writes, in order to be truly creative, machines will need to step into the world. He probes the nature of consciousness and speaks to researchers trying to develop emotions and consciousness in computers. Miller argues that computers can already be as creative as humans—and someday will surpass us. But this is not a dystopian account; Miller celebrates the creative possibilities of artificial intelligence in art, music, and literature.

The overriding question discussed in this Element can be stated simply as: can computers create art? This Element presents an overview of the controversies raised by various answers to this question. A major difficulty is that the technology is developing rapidly, and there are still many uncertainties and knowledge gaps as to what is possible today and in the near future. But a number of controversial issues are identified and discussed. The position taken on controversial issues will depend on assumptions made about the technology, about the nature and location of consciousness, about art and creativity. Therefore, a number of hypothetical answers are outlined, related to the assumptions made.

In a world where artificial intelligence (AI) generates stunning works of art, the authenticity and uniqueness of human craftsmanship threatens to fade into the background. But this book is a plea for the magic that can only be created by human creativity - a homage to the uniqueness and immortality of handmade art in the age of AI. This book shows how artists are using the power of AI not to replace their creativity, but to enrich it. We discover how artists use technology as a source of inspiration to explore new horizons and create unique forms of expression. „The Art And The Artificial Intelligence“ offers succinctly the most important approaches how artists with courage and passion preserve their unique artistic identity and emphasize the importance of originality. Limited editions, individual signatures and personal perspectives create artworks that stand out from the digital crowd and create an unparalleled connection with the viewer. This book is an invitation to celebrate the beauty, depth and meaning of human creativity and to recognize that in the age of AI, the real magic lies in the uniqueness and immortality of handmade art. About the author: York P. Herpers is the author of the well-known exercise book series „Practice Drawing“ (Practice-Drawing.com) and the coloring book series „Cool Down“ (CooldownColoring.com). Both series offer over 100 different theme worlds for freehand drawing and coloring of individual one-offs. The promotion of the art world is very important to the passionate painter and draftsman. AI for Arts is a book for anyone fascinated by the man–machine connection, an unstoppable evolution that is intertwining us with technology in an ever-greater degree, and where there is an increasing concern that it will be technology that comes out on top. Thus, presented here through perhaps its most esoteric form, namely art, this unfolding conundrum is brought to its apex. What is left of us humans if artificial intelligence also surpasses us when it comes to art? The articulation of an artificial intelligence art manifesto is long overdue, so hopefully this book can fill a gap that will have repercussions not only for aesthetic and philosophical considerations but possibly more so for the development of artificial intelligence.

An examination of machine learning art and its practice in new media art and music. Over the past decade, an artistic movement has emerged that draws on machine learning as both inspiration and medium. In this book, transdisciplinary artist-researcher Sofian Audry examines artistic practices at the intersection of machine learning and new media art, providing conceptual tools and historical perspectives for new media artists, musicians, composers, writers, curators, and theorists. Audry looks at works from a broad range of practices, including new media installation, robotic art, visual art, electronic music and sound, and electronic literature, connecting machine learning art to such earlier artistic practices as cybernetics art, artificial life art, and evolutionary art. Machine learning underlies computational systems that are biologically inspired, statistically driven, agent-based networked entities that program themselves. Audry explains the fundamental design of machine learning algorithmic structures in terms accessible to the nonspecialist while framing these technologies within larger historical and conceptual spaces. Audry debunks myths about machine learning art, including the ideas that machine learning can create art without artists and that machine learning will soon bring about superhuman intelligence and creativity. Audry considers learning procedures, describing how artists hijack the training process by playing with evaluative functions; discusses trainable machines and models, explaining how different types of machine learning systems enable different kinds of artistic practices; and reviews the role of data in machine learning art, showing how artists use data as a raw material to steer learning systems and arguing that machine learning allows for novel forms of algorithmic remixes.

Emotions, creativity, aesthetics, artistic behavior, divergent thoughts, and curiosity are both fundamental to the human experience and instrumental in the development of human-centered artificial intelligence systems that can relate, communicate, and understand human motivations, desires, and needs. In this book the editors put forward two core propositions: creative artistic behavior is one of the key challenges of artificial intelligence research, and computer-assisted creativity and human-centered artificial intelligence systems are the driving forces for research in this area. The invited chapters examine computational creativity and more specifically systems that exhibit artistic behavior or can improve humans' creative and artistic abilities. The authors synthesize and reflect on current trends, identify core challenges and opportunities, and present novel contributions and applications in domains such as the visual arts, music, 3D environments, and games. The book will be valuable for researchers, creatives, and others engaged with the relationship between artificial intelligence and the arts.

What Is Artificial Intelligence Art A work of art made using artificial intelligence (AI) systems, such as text-to-image models and musical generators, is referred to as an example of artificial intelligence art. Examples of artificial intelligence art include photographs and musical compositions. The term "digital art" is occasionally used interchangeably with it. AI art, in contrast to digital art, makes use of generative algorithms and deep learning techniques to develop artwork on its own, without the need for human artists to provide any direct input. This distinguishes it from digital art, which relies only on computer technology. How You Will Benefit (I) Insights, and validations about the following topics: Chapter 1: Artificial intelligence art Chapter 2: Digital art Chapter 3: Generative art Chapter 4: Computer art Chapter 5: Procedural generation Chapter 6: Algorithmic art Chapter 7: Music and artificial intelligence Chapter 8: Synthetic media Chapter 9: Generative artificial intelligence Chapter 10: Artificial intelligence and copyright (II) Answering the public top questions about artificial intelligence art.
