The novelty of Mail Art lies in the intention of distributing art from person to person, using a channel free of middlemen and critics, galleries, curators, historians, and so on. In this sense, means a libertarian practice as opposed to traditional systems of control and validation of art. The book focuses on highlighting and making visible the communications network that allowed mail art from countries where political regimes-often-censored dictatorial and limiting freedom of expression and free flow of ideas. The edited volume presents a chronological review of the activities performed by Mail Art Mexican artists, not forgetting that this phenomenon ties built with actors from other latitudes. You could say it was not seeking Mail Art as an ultimate goal the creation of artistic pieces, by contrast, understood the art as a vehicle for social transformation, where all players are prone to cultural creation regardless of formal training or technical . The book contains previously unpublished works of Mathias Goeritz, Pedro Friedeberg, Felipe Ehrenberg, Clemente Padín, Dieter Roth, Mark Kurtycz, Polvo de Gallina Negra, and hundreds of artists from five continents. All have in common is having traveled to Mexico through the mail. The volume also makes an analysis of the phenomenon of artecorreo in Mexico and the world from texts commissioned especially for this edition.

Sic written by César Espinosa and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-01-12 with Poetry categories.

César Espinosa, well known as a great promoter and scholar of visual and experimental poetry, is a first-rate visual poet himself. A compilation of some of his work in that field is long overdue. For this edition, Espinosa has also written an introductory essay on the long international and interethnic history of visual poetry, with special emphasis on México. Araceli Zúñiga adds some essential observations on Latin American experimental poetry, and on its Mexican context, with references to Ulises Carrión, and to the pre-colombian Tlacuilos (Náhua writers/painters), among others. She quotes Carrión, from his El nuevo arte de hacer libros: "Un libro es una secuencia de espacios" a pronouncement that gives much food for thought, not only for visual poetry, but for all books, including this one, exhorting the reader to see the negative spaces, or what is missing, or what contradicts the book. It's the idea that reality is a union of opposites, a very Mesoamerican and universal concept. This book is both a work of art and a book about that art. Joh

Mathias Goeritz written by Jennifer Josten and has been published by Yale University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-01-01 with Architecture categories.

The first major work in English on Mathias Goeritz (1915-1990), this book illuminates the artist's pivotal role within the landscape of twentieth-century modernism. Goeritz became recognized as an abstract sculptor after arriving in Mexico from Germany by way of Spain in 1949. His call to integrate abstract forms into civic and religious architecture, outlined in his "Emotional Architecture" manifesto, had a transformative impact on midcentury Mexican art and design. While best known for the experimental museum El Eco and his collaborations with the architect Luis Barrag n, including the brightly colored towers of Satellite City, Goeritz also shaped the Bauhaus-inspired curriculum at Guadalajara's School of Architecture and the iconic Cultural Program of Mexico City's 1968 Olympic Games. Josten addresses the Cold War implications of these and other initiatives that pitted Goeritz, an advocate of internationalist abstraction, against Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros, ardent defenders of the realist style that prevailed in official Mexican art during the postrevolutionary period. Exploring Goeritz's dialogues with leading figures among the Parisian and New York avant-gardes, such as Yves Klein and Philip Johnson, Josten shows how Goeritz's approach to modernism, which was highly attuned to politics and place, formed part of a global enterprise.

Conceptualism In Latin American Art written by Luis Camnitzer and has been published by University of Texas Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-07-01 with Art categories.

Conceptualism played a different role in Latin American art during the 1960s and 1970s than in Europe and the United States, where conceptualist artists predominantly sought to challenge the primacy of the art object and art institutions, as well as the commercialization of art. Latin American artists turned to conceptualism as a vehicle for radically questioning the very nature of art itself, as well as art's role in responding to societal needs and crises in conjunction with politics, poetry, and pedagogy. Because of this distinctive agenda, Latin American conceptualism must be viewed and understood in its own right, not as a derivative of Euroamerican models. In this book, one of Latin America's foremost conceptualist artists, Luis Camnitzer, offers a firsthand account of conceptualism in Latin American art. Placing the evolution of conceptualism within the history Latin America, he explores conceptualism as a strategy, rather than a style, in Latin American culture. He shows how the roots of conceptualism reach back to the early nineteenth century in the work of Símon Rodríguez, Símon Bolívar's tutor. Camnitzer then follows conceptualism to the point where art crossed into politics, as with the Argentinian group Tucumán arde in 1968, and where politics crossed into art, as with the Tupamaro movement in Uruguay during the 1960s and early 1970s. Camnitzer concludes by investigating how, after 1970, conceptualist manifestations returned to the fold of more conventional art and describes some of the consequences that followed when art evolved from being a political tool to become what is known as "political art."
